NCAA Football 2008 Discussion - It All Starts Here.

Not very pleased with Michigan's performance today. They looked terribly on both sides of the ball. There's really not much more to say.

They need to get better, and quickly or Rich Rod's stay in Ann Arbor will be pretty short.

Oregon beat Washington 44-10, despite having to fall back on their third-string quarterback during the second quarter due to the starter (and second string until last week) being injured. We went through five QB's last season and one (possibly two) so far this season. It's going to be a long year.

To be fair, everyone knew going in that this was to be a long year. There were moments where they looked pretty good. I think it's a matter of time and patience, which will last longer?

Ahahahahahahaha! Bwahahahahaha!

Oh, Tommy Bowden. When will you learn that you can't win the big games?

Hahahahahaha!

Sorry. Still overjoyed that Clemson got exposed as the most overrated team in the top 25 last night.

Other thoughts:
- Michigan looks horrible. Personally, I think this is karma coming back to bite Rich Rodriguez, and I am not sorry one bit.
- Florida's thrashing of Hawai'i was interesting - it was nice to have a reminder that Hawai'i is another fairly overrated team, but Florida looked positively scary.
- After thinking more about USC's victory on Thursday, the more I realize we really won't know how good the team is until we play Vandy. It was like two different teams playing in the first three and final quarters.

Yes, it looks like this isn't the ACC's year. I hope USC can whip Clemson like Alabama did last night. And too bad MSU laid an egg against that shitty non-conference team.

SEC!

Yeah, that was odd, and it really sucks for MSU. Y'all are the Vandy of the SEC West.

That would be "they," not "yall." I'm an Auburn fan.

Oh. Sorry. :p

In that case, bully for you, since you're probably going to take the SEC West this year.

My predictions:
SEC West:
1. Auburn
2. Alabama
3. Ole Miss
4. LSU
5. Arkansas
6. Miss State

SEC East:
1. Florida
2. Georgia
3. South Carolina (#2 if we can get our QB situation under control)
4. Tennessee
5. Kentucky
6. Vandy

Champion: Florida

Great win from Cal last night, but that was a hell of a Football game. Both of Cal's running backs were impressive, but that defense needs to learn how to catch the ball. There could have been like 10 interceptions last night since that defense kept on tipping the ball. Would have been nice if they had caught it every once in a while. Still, it was a very competitive game on both sides, and I am very happy with what I saw with both Stanford and Cal this year. Hopefully someone can make it to the top 25 and make some traction in the pac-10 even though I'm fully aware USC is still the boss of the conference.

I'm looking forward to that game quite a bit.

:techman:

So am I. Two of the most successful and storied programs in college football, historically and presently. This is what the sport is all about!

I am looking forward to it too. I will be rooting for the Trojans but I think Ohio State should be the favorite based on all the starters they have returning. And USC better beat them this year since the next year's game in Columbus will be very tough to win, with that Pryor dude having more experience and USC probably losing 8 of their defensive starters (though their 2009 offense should be pretty awesome).

I hope you're right about Auburn winning the west. And It would be quite entertaining to see USC finish ahead of either Florida, Georgia, or Tennessee in the east.

Everything looked good against Virginia.

Sanchez did well, don't you think?

McKnight is very exciting to watch.

But yeah, OSU is going to be tough. No question.

It remains to be seen if OSU really has improved in the areas they needed to over last season. They were in the red on trunovers, which is unacceptable if you want to win the big ones. YSU was not exactly a great test on that. Of coruse they evened out the turnovers, but to be fair the one they lost was on Beanie's injury. PLus, there was the old bugaboo of a dropped interception that would have been an easy 6. It was a seldom used player who dropped it, so I can let him pass on that.

The thing is last year was not supposed to be so successful. This was the season everyone was pointing to. My gut feeling is that if Beanie is healthy, you will see the team everyone had been looking for - disciplined and talented. Sept. 13 will be a war. I want Sanchez back and healthy. USC wants Beanie back and healthy. A game of this magnitude demands each team at its absolute best, and man.... I honestly think that's what we will get.

Watch out for the Pac-10. I thought I heard somewhere that the Pac-10 was going to be weaker this year but while the ACC had a tragic weekend, the Pac-10 didn't do too badly. Oregon, Stanford, Cal, UCLA, USC, and Arizona all won this weekend. (Not sure how Arizona St did). Tonight's game was awesome between UCLA and Tennessee. Can't believe that field goal kicker missed what looked like a cheap shot in overtime. Still, what a strong weekend for the Pac-10 and while it's the first week, it shows promise.

I was glad to see UCLA get the win tonight. That was a really fun game to watch!

Same here. It really is a treat when I can sit back and watch a game in which I have no emotional involvement whatsoever. That kid for UCLA - Craft ? - he has some character. To look that bad in the first half, then come out and play so well in the second....

Yeah, great game! I missed most of the first half, but saw all of the second, and wow! Great ending.
