NBC FALL 2011-12 SCHEDULE

Whitney Cummings is probably not likeable enough to anchor a sitcom.

From what I've seen of her on Chelsea lately her talent is the quick nasty snark and that can get real old real quick on a weekly series. Sometimes it can work in a good ensemble cast (see, eg, "Community") but very few leading characters can pull it off.

Just went to the link above and watched the clip. Wow. She can't act to save her life.

I bailed after the first few unfunny jokes - not just Whitney's show (is she supposed to be famous? I've never heard of her) but for all the others. (I also cannot tolerate laugh tracks.) Why did NBC waste so many timeslots on bad comedies? I would have rather seen 17th Precinct, which even if it was a mess, would have had to have been an interesting mess.

Rumors are coming out of FOX that they are going to put Terra Nova on mondays, brave to not use X Factor/Idol for such an expensive show and fatally a stupid move...

DWTS, CBS sitcom and The Voice will probably have solid 18-49 totals, is there room for another younger skewing show. This is why I proposed Bones for monday nights because its older skewing nature (when not on Idol night)would fit well on such an night.

I've seen her as a guest on Chelsea Lately and heard her on the Stern show. She's kind of funny on those shows but, again, it's the quick "get in get out" snark stuff where's she's playing off of other comedians.

Speaking of Chelsea Handler, one of the links has a clip from a planned midseason show based on Handler's "Are you there, Vodka" book. But Chelsea is played by Laura Prepon and Handler plays ...Chelsea's sister.

NBC does have a no-football contingency plan: reality crap.

Great! :rommie:

As for Sunday Night Football, "we feel pretty good about where we are with the NFL and "pretty optimistic that football will be there," Greenblatt said. "Worst case scenario, (the season) will be delayed by a few weeks." NBC is already working on "high-quality, live entertainment reality-type shows that would fill the gap," Greenblatt said. He wouldn't elaborate, only noting that they are "attention-getting big ideas" and that NBC will air the specials elsewhere on the schedule if there is no delay to the football season.

something ive missed

Brian Williams' primetime newsmagazine is a go for midseason. Greenblatt described it as "fresh, relevant and enteraining."
I wonder if this is a new show, or will take one of the Date Line NBC hours.

When NFL is gone, Dateline will be airing in the awful 7-8 sunday slot and I can see its friday role going to this new show.

It does seem odd to think that NBC would give up a drama or comedy hour for Brian Williams, seems more logical he take one of the Dateline slots.

That's pretty weird. I'm surprised Chelsea didn't want to be the star.

That is weird. It's especially weird insofar as, at least in the clip, Handler's delivery makes the "uptight" sister actually seem wittier than Prepon's lead character.

I just read on Yahoo's home page that Deadline is supposed to stay on Fridays. The boring news show fits in with the sunday shows.

^ I guess they want to try and compete with 60 minutes with a brand spanking new show but older people, in which these shows generally core base is made from are creatures of habit so I expect it to fall flat.

Awake is the new name for R.E.M., the pilot that B.D. Wong had shot.

Since it's been picked up, we know he won't be on SVU frequently.
