NBA Discussion - 2008-2009 Season

Yeah, I just read about it on SI.com. Then again.... it's not exactly a guarantee they would be making the playoffs anyhow. I think they would have, but in the West... it's a crapshoot. Still, I feel sorry for the Suns' fans, to get punched in the guy like this just when things looked like they were picking up.

It'll be amusing to see the Suns run that uptempo offense with Shaq on the floor more often.

Hey... the best teams do what they can against whomever they play... and take whatever they're given!

I confess I was a little peeved that the Cavs couldn't pull off a trade yesterday. Granted, my first choice was Marcus Camby, but apparently that was never really going to be a possibility. Then Atawn Jamison was a neat idea... but the Wizards trading him to a division rival.. especially the Cavs? Nope... that never struck me as realistic. Then Shaq's name came up, and I thought... "cool!" I mean, Shaq - even a lesser one - and LeBron would have been sweet to see, as a PR gold mine as well as a duo on the court. But apparently the asking price was too much.

The Blazers didn't do anything at all yesterday, which I found surprising. I would have figured that they would have dumped Raef LaFrentz's expiring contract but they were only offered bad deals for it. Oh well, I can live with the team we have now. They're going to be very, very good soon.

Shaq's awesome! I'm glad that Porter finally got the boot, I've been wanting him gone for a while.
The Suns are going nowhere. That is one of the most screwed up organizations in the league. Not bein able to play defense has kept this current Suns group out of the NBA Finals for the last 5 years or so and how do the Suns respond? They trade their two best defenders, Marion and Bell, and acquire Shaquille who was never a great defender and the other guy (dude from Golden State - can't remember his name) who also plays no D.

They force out the best coach the franchise ever had and hire one who stresses defense and the half court game, two things that are vital to winning in the playoffs, and give him this chemisty challenged group and fire him before he has a chance to straighten out the mess created by Steve Kerr and the owner.

And top it off with trying to trade -- publicly trying to trade -- their best player.

The Suns need to shut it down. Trade Nash for whatever youth and draft picks they can get, let Shaq walk after his contract expires if they can't work a trade for him before, trade Amare (once he's recovered) because they've poisoned the water with this player and will lose him anyway in free agency, go ahead and land in the lottery for a couple of years and start over.

What about Detroit? As a Spurs fan who loved to hate the Pistons (I still think the 2005 finals between those two was the most entertaining in the last decade or so), it's kind of sad to see their current state. They're having all kinds of chemistry problems and at the rate their going, they might miss the playoffs all together.

And if I was a GM, there's no way I'd let Iverson on my team.

The Blazers lost to the Rockets and the Spurs back to back on the road this week. I still think they'll make the playoffs, but I think it will be another year before they're really ready to play with the big boys.
