NASA's image of the day - TOS crew with Enterptise Shuttle

I remember watching it on TV. A marching band played the Star Trek theme.

Then getting to see the shuttle glide off that 747. It was breath taking. I hope the Space Program can eventually recapture that bold spirit of adventure and exploration.

Wow, I wasn't alive in the 70's since I was born in 84, but man! every time I see a picture like this I just think that it must have been a very interesting time. Those clothes, the glasses, the hair and everything. ah the 70's....

Take it from somebody who was born in 1970, and remembers those years well. It WAS an interesting time. I miss it.

Well, most of it.

Chicks were way hotter then.

agreed. thoughts and images of the '70s always make me sigh...

Make that another person that agrees. 70's fashion (and other esoterica) is fascinating. Enough to double Spock's mind over, any day!

Anyway, 1976 -- THREE YEARS before the premiere of "The Motion Picture". Star Trek was comin' back, folks.

P.S. This photo is very gratifying, on a number of levels. Roddenberry's ethos is simple but quite deep. Wonderful to see the folks of NASA repaying a debt.

P.P.S. Thanks to "The God Thing" for posting an uncropped, high res version.
