yeah, i don't have the previous two films on dvd either. i had 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe' but the ex took it.

They're not, actually. They're a part of Dawn Treader, and the Lone Islands episode is somewhat larger, with a more direct confrontation between Caspian and the corrupt Governor Gumpas after Drinian and co. free them from the slavers.
My apologies. It's been a long time since I've read either book, and I was misinterpreting what Apted said about pulling elements of The Silver Chair into the film of Dawn Treader. I thought it was the slavers that came from Silver Chair, but it appears that it's the green mist that has some connection to the latter book. And some Narnia fansites say even that's an exaggeration, so I don't know what to think. I should just reread the books. :)

No worries. I hadn't heard that what Apted said about pulling Silver Chair elements into Dawn Treader. I can see how the Green Mist makes some sense, yeah.

He might also (maybe) be talking about Liliandil, since she never actually appears in the novel and is only mentioned as "Ramandu's Daughter" who Caspian ends up marrying; the movie took out Ramandu entirely, but I can see why since he'd be easy to get confused with Coriakin the Wizard (IMO). He might also mean Jill since Eustace (I don't think?) knew her before The Silver Chair, but that'd be stretching it I think.

I read the novel recently, and It seemed to me that it was the star that Caspian ended up marrying, which I think was also his daughter.

In box office terms the recent sequel Dawn Treader may end up resembling the most is The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which had a similar budget ($145 million), just squeaked over $100 million domestic, but was a major success in international markets, bringing it to a worldwide total of just over $400 million. Universal is developing another sequel in the Mummy series, so hopefully similar numbers would prod Fox to do the same in the Narnia series.

For real? I don't know how I missed that news? As much as I thought Mummy 3 was an obvious dip in the series I'd still try it again. Especially if we follow the ending of 3 and are in Peru. Yeah for Incan mummies!!

Let's all just hope Dawn Treader hits $400m also.

The fourth film is entitled The Mummy: Rise of the Aztec. Word is it'll be made without Brendan Fraser. It certainly doesn't seem to be fast-tracked and they might eventually think better of it, but they do have it in development.

^I seriously doubt anyone would watch another Mummy film without Brendan Fraser. Even Maria Bello was hard to watch as the recast Evelyn in the previous film.

agreed. as much as i like the character of Jonathan i can't see him being the central character of a movie, or carrying one for that matter.

With Christmas Eve kicking off tomorrow and most people off today(12/23) and schools out for at least a week(hence the better dailies) I'm hoping for a good weekend and good Thur daily total.

Narnia really only has Tangled to deal with as far as family entertainment. The other movies are targeting different audiences in: Tron, True Grit, Fighter, Black Swan or Tourist. I don't even categorize Fockers as a 'family' movie in the most strict sense despite that it's a family together at the holidays.

I wouldn't dismiss "Little Fockers" these types of films usually have surprisingly big opening weekends. I think Narnia will manage to pull in another 12-15 million this weekend. Hopefully more than that.

I'm only saying that Fockers isn't a true family film in the truest sense. It's a comedy that will border on raunchy at times and it just so happens to use a family grouping as it's background. Family films don't border on raunchy. I know there is a Focker fan base that will turn out. As 'family' films go Narnia & Fockers are apples v oranges.

We seem to be thinking alike for an optimistic Narnia total.

Dunno if anyone else has seen this, but it's some commentary on Dawn Treader as well as the potential for Silver Chair as a fourth Narnia film:

I guess what I take from that is that IF they make another one it seems that they have two contenders. He mentioned the filmmakers have tossed around The Magician's Nephew and The Silver Chair but was interested to know that the informal poll of Narniafans.com was 75% for The Silver Chair.

I'll have to jump over to wiki and read a summary on TMN. Seems that it's set up really well for Eustace and Jill at the close of VOTDT to voyage to Narnia for TSC.

The Silver Chair is the more obvious film to make next in story terms since it continues with Eustace and concludes Caspian's story. The Magician's Nephew could be made on a more radically reduced budget, though.

I really enjoyed the "world building" aspects of TMN, but I do think that TSC would probably be the best film to produce next (assuming one happens, of course). The Narnia franchise is on borrowed time as it is, and you'd need a solid cinematic fourth film if the franchise hopes to continue. TSC seems better suited for that.

As mentioned before "The Silver Chair" is optioned and would be the natural chronological film to make next but I'd be delighted with "The Magician's Nephew". I guess we'll just have to see what happens.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't complain about The Magician's Nephew. In fact, I liked it the best of the series (save for, perhaps, Dawn Treader). But I also think that The Silver Chair is the more bankable of the two stories.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader saw an 18% uptick in ticket sales from Wed to Thursday for another $2.9m bringing it's domestic total to $53.1m going into the Christmas weekend.
Narnia had the second highest uptick of films in the top 10, with Potter only doing better with twenty percent.
