Narada Invincible or Wimpy?

Carpe Occasio

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
The Narada was able to wipe out 47 Klingon ships and all the Vulcan ships but wasn't able to handle separately the Kelvin (allowed the Kelvin to ram it), the Enterprise (didn't do anything to the Enterprise really), or the Jellyfish (allowed yet another ship, a tiny one at that, to ram it). What's up with that?

disoriented/weakened because of journey through singularity.

was going to destroy E but held back at Vulcan to let young Spock see Vulcan destroyed too.

Jellyfish was small and maneuverable, evidently the 24th century's fastest ship.

What really killed the ship off was all that red matter igniting. It's not as if Nero hadn't been warned. Men. They never listen.

Yeah, I don't think Nero ever really cared about blowing up Enterprise. That is why there wasn't really a duel between the 2 ships... Nero could have taken them out easily. But that was never his focus.

Correct, Nero wanted young and old Spock to live without their planet. The bridge crew talks about how the Enterprise wasn't any threat to the Narada.

Try dodging flies when riding a bike.

People, people. I'll go along with Nero wanting to leave the Enterprise alone, but the Kelvin and the jellyfish should have been easy. Sensors, shields, advanced weapons, all that brought to bear should have made short work of the Kelvin and the Jellyfish.

Nero joined the ranks of James Bond villains who have countless opportunities to kill their foe but never take any of them because of sheer stupidity in this film.

Kelvin maybe.. had to have time for birthin' the baby.

But Jellyfish... it's like an X-Wing going against the Death Star.

Consider that the Narada's shields may have been down when encountering the Kelvin. The Kelvin crew was able to keep a vital stats lock on there captain right up untill he died, if there shields were up would they have been able to do that?

It's called plot. The Narada has to be strong enough to pose a threat for 90% of the film, but be wimpy enough to be destroyed by two tiny ships at the end.

Exactly! The Narada does what the writers need it to do, or not to do, to fit the events they are unfolding. It's a plot contrivance.

...and the fucking red matter, man! :D

Red matter! If it only takes a drop to stop a supernova or destroy a planet why carry around a giant ball of it?!

Maybe you can only buy Red Matter in bulk? ;)

Well, the Kelvin had enough time to raise it's shields. The impression I got was that the Fleet that arrived at Vulcan was caught completely by surprise, and the Narada was able to destroy them before any of them could raise their shields. And the Jellyfish didn't take a single hit. The Enterprise was able to shoot down all the missiles Nero fired at Spock.

I have you now Spock and I should kill you, but instead I'm to gloat and go on about how you will have to live without your world...whats that sound.......BANG

Uh.... hm.... don't do that. Don't make me use my brain. I'm a woman, I can't both look good and say things that make sense. :p

Crazy suggestion for Megalomaniac super villain: Instead of having Spock watch his world being destroyed like yours was, why don't you go SAVE YOURS SINCE YOU'RE BACK IN TIME, STUPID!!!
