Nanos are on their way

^for some reason I read that as "self defecate". ewww.

Hmmm, after reading the article, it seems they do self defecate!

I read this (several times before I got around to opening the thread) as "Nandos are on the way". I was thinking, wow are they going to start delivering? And THEN when I read it would be the end of cancer well.. peri peri is good stuff.

Cool. Some stem cells and a few nanos should keep my decrepit ass alive a little longer.

I want them to eat human faeces and burn it to create energy. Imagine filling your bowels with them. Never need to shit again, and the power of personal flight.

Interesting. Even if this is at a very primitive stage, the very fact that a company like IBM is getting into antibiotics sounds like a big watershed in the development of nanotech. I wonder when the first assemblers are projected to roll off of the production queues. About 15 years ago I read an article that estimated it to happen circa 2025.

Finally, doctors will be knocked off their ivory towers.

We need to get Microsoft working on nanos that can study case law and make random ad hominen attacks, so as to make lawyers redundant as well.

That way, parents in China and India will no longer be able to dream that their children will become doctors or lawyers.

By destroying the hopes and dreams of Asia's middle classes, we will be able to ensure that these countries power will never eclipse our own thus securing the world for decades.

Bill Gates, please read this and pay attention. The fate of the free world is in your hands.

Of course, you'll be paying a small sub-scription fee to keep your nano-machines protecting your body month by month. If you fail to pay the subscription fee they will cease to protect your body from illness and self-destruct after three months of in-active payment forcing you to plunk down money for a second injection.

Oh, did you say that you might die if they de-activate your nanos and yet you can't pay? W-e-l-l. Why didn't you think of that before your started subscribing?

Cynicism aside...Well, no -- I can't put it aside. The same corporate overlords who brought us our current healthcare system will find a way to screw it up beyond a sense of pratical usefulness.

No, they self destruct when they are no longer needed.

There was also nothing in the article about stem cells.

This thread is like playing "Rumors". By the last post, IBM will have created nanobots that are intelligent and plotting to take over world governments and extinguish the human race.

Here is the article:
Computer giant turns to germ warfare

Rob Waters

April 5, 2011

SAN FRANCISCO: The computer company IBM is developing a technology that searches out drug-resistant germs in the body and destroys them.

I agree.
but on another hand they are studying this. I can see how a computer company could get some serious profit from this.
I have hopes for this, and wish to see it being used by the time I reach mid-age.

My post was in jest, but since you brought it up, from the article, "They degrade into an innocuous byproduct", sounds a bit like self defecating to me.

Stem cells? where the heck did I mention stem cells?
