Nana Visitor: Leaving DS9 was "painful"

Nana Visitor says in this interview that leaving DS9 was painful because they were more than a family - they were a tribe. They belonged together. I thought that was beautifully stated. It's something I felt about the cast and extended cast even as a viewer.

...And she's still gorgeous!

What a lovely, delightful lady! I think it's always fair to remind everyone just how hard working on a weekly series, especially in a leading role is. They makes lots of money and (hopefully) advance their careers, but they earn it.

I read one previous interview where Nana said she had difficulty with the makeup she was required to wear in S3's "Second Skin", when Kira was altered to be a Cardassian. She stated having a bad case of claustrophobia and felt the makeup was extremely confining and at times tried to rip it off her face before the artists had to settle her down in order to properly do it themselves. She had about the same problem in "Heart of Stone" when Kira was in a growing crystal trap. Nana felt just as confined and personally despised shooting that episode. These were about the only negative experiences for Nana, who was overall excellent as Kira Nerys.

It was totally worth it though. Seeing Kira as a Cardassian was one of the more shocking moments for me in the series. A part of me wishes they left it a question as to whether or not she was really Cardassian or Bajoran after that episode.

Poor Andrew Robinson suffered from claustrophobia as well, but unfortunately his character really was Cardassian!
