My mother calls me that more than she calls me by my real name.Rickder? That's pretty cool.My mom did not agree, so my parents added the Der to the Rick and came up with my name![]()

My maternal grandfather wanted my parents to name me Margaret (so he could call me Peggy). I am so grateful!! that my parents declined (mom didn't want a Peggy). The compromise: my middle name is Margaret and nobody calls me Peggy. Amen.

That's a sort of family name in my husband's family. His grandmother is named Margaret but goes by Peggy, he has an aunt named Margaret who actually goes by that name, and my brother-in-law and his wife have considered the name if they ever have a daughter. They'd probably name a daughter Margaret but have her go by Maggie, which I think is really sweet. Then again I'm a sucker for traditions.

It's a family name for my lot, too.My maternal family, anyway. Margaret is my maternal grandmother's name and my mother's second.
Of course, my first name pales in comparison to my middle name. I absolutely loath it!Always have. It was the name of my 5th great-grandfather. I suppose it was an alright name in the 1790s, but not so much for the late 20th century.
It's funny, I also have a rather ... "archaic" middle name that I absolutely hated when I was a kid. But, it's grown on me. And, I came to appreciate the "tradition" of it as I got older. I'm the 7th generation where the oldest son of the oldest son got this as a middle name, and 8 generations ago, it was the family patriarch's first name. I kinda dig that.![]()
People called Seth make me always think about him, which is pretty cool.

Herbert?
Had I been a boy, my mum would have named me Giuseppe (Joseph), which sounds much better in English than it does in Italian...
There was a short lived debate in my family as they were considering calling me Carlotta.
With all due respect to all the Carlotta in the world, I am -so- thankful I didn't end up with that name.
As it is, I now bear the names of three Queens.![]()
