Names you could have got.

If I had been a girl, I would have been named Elizabeth.

Not sure if my parents had any other boy names picked out for me.

As far as middle names go, I've got two. Weird family thing - when my oldest sister was born, my parents agreed on her middle name, so she has one. When my other sister was born, they couldn't agree on the middle name, so she got both. When my brother was born, same thing, they couldn't agree on a middle name, so he got both. By the time I was born, they didn't even argue about it, and gave me two middle names, too.

My sister's two boys have two middle names.

And my brother gave his two children two middle names, as well.

My first name was always going to be Margaret. There is an old Scottish tradition to alternate girls names. The granddaughter being named after the grandmother. I my family we alternate Margaret and Elizabeth. The other tradition is for our middle names to be taken from the paternal grandmother. My mother's middle name is Eunice. My middle name could've been Edna, but my dad said no, which I'm very happy about. He thought Margaret Edna was too old fashioned, so I became Margaret Heather.
Heather was actually a fairly popular name at the time, but not Margaret, I very rarely run into another Margaret my own age. Most Margaret's have nicknames, but I don't do nicknames. Its Margaret! or MHT to the Trekbbs :)

My mom did not agree, so my parents added the Der to the Rick and came up with my name
Rickder? That's pretty cool. :D

At first my father didn't like the idea of me being named after him, so my mother planned on calling me Stephen; then my father relented, so I'm Richard. My first brother then got to be Stephen.

I'm the exact opposite. My mom wanted to name me Randolph Scott, but my dad and his massive ego insisted that I be named after him so Randolph became my middle name. Sadly, mom didn't have the guts to say no to him.
I'm not sure if my father was being humble or if he just already didn't like me. :rommie:

I'm curious, does anyone feel particularly unsuited to their name?
I think my name is perfect. It makes me sound lion-hearted. :mallory:

I was almost called Luca, which would have been nice, if a little plain.

Instead, I ended up with a very unusual, compound name. Which was a bit of a challenge when growing up (the short, nerdy kid with a funny name...), but now I cannot imagine another one for me.

If I were a girl, I would have been Manuela.

Amelia would have suited me.
You would have been a great Amelia!

My mom's crazy, and I don't even remember my sisters full names because of it.
Haha, we didn't have middle names at all.
Some people in Italy have middle names, some people don't. My family doesn't, so I don't have one.

My family doesn't do middle names. I'm also glad we're not passing on names from the grandparents. I seriously wouldn't want to be a "Cherubina".

^ Ha, that's kind of awesome, but I understand your reluctance. I am partly named for my grandfather... kind of. Long story.

Just for kicks, I wouldn't mind giving to an hypothetical child a middle name, so to give the impression of a Roman name (like the Italian writer Valerio Massimo Manfredi).

If I had been a girl, I was going to be named Amanda. I'm not sure if they had any other boys names picked out for me. Though, I wish they had. I'm not too fond of my name.

Of course, my first name pales in comparison to my middle name. I absolutely loath it! :klingon: Always have. It was the name of my 5th great-grandfather. I suppose it was an alright name in the 1790s, but not so much for the late 20th century.

In fact, when I converted to Roman Catholicism and was confirmed, I made a conscious choice to pick a much more common name for my Confirmation Name - Luke. I'm thinking about starting to go by it instead.

Oddly, when my younger sister was born over two years after me, my parents didn't name her Amanda. If she had been a boy, she would have been Seth. And I know she wishes they had picked Amanda, as she absolutely loathes both her first and middle names - even more than I hate my middle one. She hates them so much that I honestly think she'd hurt me if I revealed them on the internet. :p

It's funny, I also have a rather ... "archaic" middle name that I absolutely hated when I was a kid. But, it's grown on me. And, I came to appreciate the "tradition" of it as I got older. I'm the 7th generation where the oldest son of the oldest son got this as a middle name, and 8 generations ago, it was the family patriarch's first name. I kinda dig that. :)

Yeah, that does sound kind of cool. :bolian:

I've thought of some awesome middle names for my future kids, too. But maybe not as pretentious as Marco Tullio Giordana. The Cicero reference sounds a bit over the top. :p

If my father had has his way my brother would have had the middle name of Furloins:wtf::rofl:.It was my grandfather's middle name.Lucky for my brother that did not happen.

That was my father's turn to chose the name. I'm lucky to be a Caroline (simple and usual), the last he chose, my 2nd brother ended being a very unusual Théophile (but it suits him well now)
My mother wanted Anne-Lise (or Jean-Baptiste if a boy) but I prefer my father's choice :)

Well, I'm sure my dad didn't like me. He admitted to me once that he hated his own name and that even if he didn't want me named after him, he would have insisted, just so somebody else would have that shitty name. That's why we're both called Randy, nicknamed from our middle name.

I'm not gonna say what my first name is, but I will say that the clue is in "The Way To Eden".
