Name your ship!

USS Deepening, Vesta-class. (If you're worried the name doesn't fit the class, "Deepening" is the Andorian word for midnight in Trek lit, a time of communal meals in a clan's keep. Hearth and family, so Vesta is appropriate!)

I have a list of ship names for my personal (sadly imaginary) fleet. Deepening is the flagship.

Mine would be the USS Rabid Gerbil.

It gets into a lot of fights--because, with a name like that, it can't avoid them.

Boldly go....

Sean

I presume the USS Hephaestus would be crewed by Vulcans?
I love the idea of USS Vonnegut that someone mentioned, how about USS Billy Pilgrim or USS Tralfamadore? or even USS Poo-Tee-Weet?
How about:

USS Baikonur
USS Victor Hugo
USS Charlemagne
USS Karl Marx
USS Weatherwax
USS Bobby Charlton
USS Beatles
USS Ursula Le Guin

The names of the ships in my fleet would be more like the Culture novel series, if I was a fleet admiral. Some I would definitely include:

USS No More Mr Nice Guy
USS Of Course I Still Love You
USS So Much For Subtlety
USS Just Testing
USS Meat Fucker
USS I Blame Your Mother
USS God Told Me To Do It
USS Someone Else's Problem
USS All Through With This Niceness And Negotiation Stuff
USS Now Look What You've Made Me Do
USS Size Isn't Everything (Defiant)
USS We Haven't Met But You're A Great Fan Of Mine (Enterprise)
USS Just Passing Through (Voyager)

Gotta love those names.

^ Culture ship names FTW ^ :)

Wonder what the Federation would be like if the ships' computers were like the AIs in the Culture novels...

Well, I personally envision the Kelvin being a "Solomon Class" ship, so I drag up the names of

USS Solomon - NCC-0500
USS Newton - NCC-0501
USS DaVinci - NCC-0502
USS Cochrane - NCC-0503
USS Socrates - NCC-0504
USS Copernicus - NCC-0505
USS Archimedes - NCC-0506
USS Tesla - NCC-0507

You get the idea. Take about twenty five to thirty ships all named after famous scientists/philosophers/wiseguys of Earth history.
