I see you lot are indeed struggling so I'l narrow it down a bit. It's a late 90's/early 00's adventure game that came out on PC & PS1 and is based on a very well known IP.

It's not Secret of Mana, but that is as close as someone can guess without getting it correct.

Correct. It is the only Square game developed in North America. It got mixed reviews upon it's release, but I remember enjoying it.

I just saw on Wikipedia that it was released almost exactly 15 years ago today, making me 11 years old when I played it. Time flies!
