Name that Game

Oh man, my only guess at that previous one was some kind of Terminator game, so I looked up Terminator FPS and came up with "Future Shock", which totally wasn't it.... ahh well.

yeah, I remember seeing it for rent at a grocery store in 199 4? and I wondered if anybody had ever played it

Never played it, but the movie tie-in factor kept it in memory better than some. Awful movie.

Anyway, took me a while to find a screenshot of this game... because I had completely forgotten the name:

You're right.

You are way off base! How dumb do you think I am? The title in plain text on the screen? The DSi game looks like a match 3 puzzle quest sort of deal. Small hint, not a handheld game of any sort, also, despite the arcade-ish timer, I don't think it was an arcade cabinet, at the very least this version certainly isn't.

Maybe I'm suffering from "Well, I had it, so it can't be that obscure" syndrome... also it's not incredibly old. From this millennium at least... there are a few copies available on ebay.

Someone has to know this game!

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of The Princess Bride's poisoned wine scene; maybe it was staring me in the face, so I recalled the name of that game and tried my luck.

Damned if I ever played either one.

No, I hold the line in North America and I've never been defeated. Granted I've only played eight times.

And yes, I get the joke... I just wanted to brag about my Invincible Alaska (TM) routine.

I kind of like the hold Australia till the end of time and be a pain in the ass strategy myself. Don't play Risk much at all, but one of my wins was against a couple of people quoting the never start a land war in Asia line... during the placement phase I just kept taking Asian countries and their feeble brains couldn't get passed the concept that going for Asia at the beginning can't work, so by the time they tried to challenge it, it was too late. Easiest game ever.

Hah... that's excellent.

"He's no threat. He's doing what is forbidden. The gods will punish him. Gods? Gods? Hello? Are you out there? 'Gods, Are You There? It's Me, South America'. Oh man, he's closing in with an extra seven units per turn. Well... I'm dead."

The sad part is one guy had a chance to break Asia on the first turn before I got all those troops. He started attacking, had some success... we were both low on troops in t he relevant countries, he probably had a 30 percent chance of taking it... and he... ended his turn. The cowardice made no sense. After that turn nobody had any hope. I couldn't believe it.

Anyway, anyone going to save those two turtles? I'll give it another day and then maybe a second screenshot or some hints.

Potential clues involved mentioning the crazy Japanese voice overs that they didn't dub over:

Controlling the damned things was harder than it seemed, trying to work in three dimensions with a not particularly intuitive button scheme. But I suppose that was the fun, for those of us who found the game fun. It felt very different and it was a challenge to master.
