Clue 4) I was debating here whether to make it "Is that how science works" which would apply to almost any episode or "Is that how genetics works" which would be too obvious. Biology seemed like a happy medium. But yeah, changing your genes immediately mutates you into what you would have grown into had you been born with them. That is totally how genes work.
