But unlike the US we don't have the Republicans periodically threatening to wreck the country by refusing to pass bills to continue funding of govt services and admin.

Because that never happens when America has a democratic president, a democratic senate, and a democratic house, all at the same time.

Countries I would invite: Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland.

Wow, that's my list, except I removed 2 of them because...

I said "three".

Unless you have decreed this a US-only thread?

Nope. I have as much power to do that as I have to power to actually invite other countries into the US.


Maybe I should consider inviting China, South Korea, and Japan instead. That will hopefully mind-screw Kim Jon-Un and stop some ugly disputes over some islands.

The questions to ask (hypothetically speaking of course) are why would you a particular country to join the USA, what benefits would they bring and get in return? What downsides are there to consider etc.. Would that add more depth to the coversation?

I believe 1st world nations and America would each benefit much more staying independent. 3rd world nations would benefit economically and people, now being citizens of a 1st world nation, will be able to move to a 1st world nation without immigration.

I can't think of any real benefit for the countries I listed ( they are on the list because they are awesome ), except for being able to vote in our presidential election. You will help decide who will or will not be the next American president. Plus he or she could be from the country that joined.
