Name 3 countries you'd consider inviting to join the United States.

Re: Name 3 countries you'd consider inviting to join the United States

No doubt to keep their fellow citizens in, rather than Canadians out. ;)

Re: Name 3 countries you'd consider inviting to join the United States

Sue me, but I enjoy seeing American institutions corrupted by general deviancy.

(You're all thinking about the Royale with Cheese from Pulp Fiction?)

See, the Metric system will ruin iconic measurements: A Quarter-Pounder with Cheese, a Pint of Beer, an Ounce of Weed, etc.

Re: Name 3 countries you'd consider inviting to join the United States

How do you broach that with your Drug dealer?

They might have to spend thousands per grow house to switch out their scales.

Costly.

But if it must be done, I suggest you employ "shame" as your key tool to provoke change.

So what?! We'll adapt! We always do.
That, or we'll fail horribly and laughably.

Ford passed legislation in 1976, committing you to total metrification.

What's the opposite of adapt?

Re: Name 3 countries you'd consider inviting to join the United States

And speaking of border walls... apparently 41% of Americans would support a wall on the US-Canada border. Really??

I have a feeling that if the survey had asked the question about the Canadian border wall independently rather than directly tying it to the question about the Mexican border wall, the results would have been different.

They didn't ask "Should a wall be built?" or "Is there a need for a wall?" regarding Canada like they did with Mexico. The way it's phrased could have been misinterpreted as "Well, if it worked for Mexico, do you think it would work for Canada too?" which is a subtle difference that could skew the results.

Also, since the two questions were directly linked, I think it might be playing upon people's sense of fairness, or at least for some their desire not to look like bigots by favoring one wall to keep out (mostly) brown people but being opposed to another wall to keep out (mostly) white people.

Just because we can accommodate doesn't mean the new option isn't inferior.

Although I think they should just invent a Metric Pint and peg it at 500 ml. That would be slightly above a US pint (it'll be 16.9 US oz instead of 16), although it'll be slightly short of a British pint (17.6 Imperial oz instead of 20). Being 500 ml would sorta split the difference and ensure uniformity (right now it feels like a Pint in Continental Europe is whatever they feel like calling a pint).

We seem to do better with oppressive legislation that would result in a demise of the "Little Grower", and necessitate "SuperFarms" measuring Rods and Rods (Hectares?, Acres?, Fathoms?) to take over.

Because: Agriculture Politics.

Ford passed legislation in 1976, committing you to total metrification.

Re: Name 3 countries you'd consider inviting to join the United States

I suspect I speak for many Brits, Canadians and Australians and say Thanks but no Thanks.

But, but...wait! The Brits lost the war, ok, and we are all real sorry about that, but:

The Patriotic Tunes are a lot the same, just different words.
We get a big fat kick out of the Royals.
We already stole a lot of British TV, so It's already here!

We love Canadia and they love us...mostly.
There's already Baseball, and the NFL is soon!
We have funny shows about Canada People that will make them feel right at home!

Australians LOVE cooking on the Barbie, so do we!!!
We both got beaches and cool buildings
We both speak English, and Americans are crazy for imitating Australian English...and we are good at it! "G'Day Mate!" See!

You can order a pinte in Paris, you will have 500 ml to drink with your Royal cheese ;)

Re: Name 3 countries you'd consider inviting to join the United States

Walls used to be anathema to the United States. Now they're in vogue.

The Berlin Wall - Initially airlifted.
The Israeli Wall - Criticized, but border under dispute, unlike US borders.
Great Wall of China - You can see it from space! (not really) Or from Sarah Palin's house!

Re: Name 3 countries you'd consider inviting to join the United States

Why can't Sarah Palin live in space, so we can absolutely discredit that aphorism?

Re: Name 3 countries you'd consider inviting to join the United States

I have a feeling that if the survey had asked the question about the Canadian border wall independently rather than directly tying it to the question about the Mexican border wall, the results would have been different.

Good points. It would be interesting to hear what the results would have been on a more straight-forward, independent question.

Although I will say it was a bit discouraging to read the comments on the article I linked to from *Canadians* who were in favour of a wall. But of course, the comments are probably made by a vocal minority that don't represent overall sentiment.

We love Canadia and they love us...mostly.

And we'd love you even more if you called our country by the correct name! ;)

We have funny shows about Canada People that will make them feel right at home!
Really? Do tell, says this Canada Person.

I can go into a pub in the UK and buy a pint of beer, I can go into a supermarket and buy a pack of Quarter Pounders. Sure the pack will likely say something 4x113g

I think that's a very polite way to sum up comment sections on news or video sites in general. ;)

What is this "Canadia"? :vulcan:

Oh? What are they?

But would you want to look up at the night sky and know she's there?

Just affecting the stereotypic (and sometimes well-earned) myopic American with absolutely no world view. No offense meant. My first experience with Canada and Canadians was one of wonderful connection and support. Orchestra exchange with families from our town and from London, Ontario. I remember such friendliness and how clean the country was. Beautiful countryside, and Toronto was a jewel. Lots of Canadians here, and I am proud to say that we tease each other muchly, but also love and care for each other even more muchly! Again, no offense intended, Avro, and Timewalker"!!! :techman:

But you have to say Canadia when you're singing the secret verse to the mahna mahna song.

None taken. My comments were just meant as light teasing about what I originally assumed was just a typo. (Although I really was curious about the "funny shows"! ;))

No way! My hometown! :D
