But that in itself suggests that it wasn't planned far in advance. I mean, the whole thing has an abrupt quality to it. The trio didn't get any kind of swan-song myth or on-camera farewell, which suggests they didn't know they were leaving until after they'd finished taping for the season.

The trio not being in their own farewell still makes me think they were dropped a while ago, before the refilmed outro was made.

But you just said, the sequence was probably taped recently. So the latest date they could've been let go would be only slightly less recent.

Plus – according to what I'm reading – Adam and Jamie have been pretty vocal recently about wanting to show more of the build process and get more rigorous about the science and engineering. We can only hope that trimming the B-team is part of a renewed focus.

Yeah Adam has often expressed regret on Tested that so much of what they film gets cut down to just the bare basics, and that viewers get to see hardly any of the thought process or build process that goes into the making of these experiments.

And from the preview he showed at Comic Con of him building the bullwhip, I have to agree this new approach and style seems like it could be a really good one for the show. And that it probably was about time for them to slow things down and become a bit less slapsticky.

Besides, Kari, Grant and Tori have kind of deserved their own spinoff for awhile now. I'd much rather see them in something like that than squeezed into just 20 minutes or so of Mythbusters every week.

But are they going to get their own spin-off? If they are then, great, they certainly deserve it and that'd be a lot of fun! But so far we've heard nothing of the sort.

Just an fyi. Adam has been making whips and other stuff using leather for quite a few years. So I'm not surprised to see him making whips on mythbusters.

You're still not getting it. Only these past two episodes were delayed that long because of the rights issues. Other episodes this season, ones that did include Kari, Grant, and Tory, were taped far more recently than that. So it's not like the whole series is lagging two years behind. The only reason the farewell was attached to this segment was because they knew this segment would be the last aired episode with the trio in it. If this segment hadn't been delayed so long, if it had aired earlier and the season finale had been a different episode, then that episode would've had the farewell recorded for it.

Even if they had known before the season was over, I doubt they would have done a big "farewell" episode. It still probably would have been something similar to what we saw.

Although I do think it would have been better to at least announce their departure a couple weeks earlier, so fans could prepare themselves and get used to the idea before the season finale. Dropping the news in the last couple minutes of the last episode just made the whole thing seem a lot more cold and heartless than it probably should have.

I see your point. I agree, it was awfully abrupt. But then, we're talking about a network that's sunk so low that it's actually lying to scientists in order to trick them into appearing to support the nonsensical, fabricated claims in its "documentaries." So I don't expect Discovery to do anything good anymore.

Not sure how I feel about the style of that clip. The focus on the process was cool, but the popup captions will take some getting used to.

No, I get it. But you are arguing with your assumption of my point rather than what I actually wrote.

But the farewell was attached to the last segment recently, rather than being part of the original episode that aired two years ago. So the age of the episode as a whole does not matter. It has nothing to do with when the farewell was recorded or when the team was let go.

FYI, there's a new interview with Adam on the Inquiring Minds podcast where he finally addresses (at least the first that I've heard) the casting situation with Kari, Grant and Tori.

He says he's prevented from going into great detail, but makes it pretty clear that it was a contract situation between them and the network, and that he and Jaime were the strongest advocates for keeping them on the show, and thought it would be a bad idea to get rid of them, and "dumb to mess with the formula this late in the game."

Although he also says that after 10 years, the show was getting a bit "long in the tooth", which makes me think Discovery and/or the producers were looking to reinvent it a bit anyway. So that might have been a factor as well.

Well, I'm sure Jamie and Adam would have been strong advocates for keeping the Jr. Mythbusters around. It's odd Discovery would want to mess with the formula so much and, shallow as it sounds, remove Kari who certainly was a draw for viewership.

It wsa probably all a question of money. For Kari/Tori/Grant it might have been time for contract renewal and they wanted payrises and either Discoviery or Beyond (or both) wouldn't come to the table on what they wanted.

A couple of things occured to me while watching some episodes I had never seen before over the weekend:


1. We've seen repeatedly that many myths can't be done by just Adam and Jamie and often require a team; and even when they are off doing their own nyth that essentialyl needs them, other myths are being worked on by Tori, Kari and Grant -- the myths aren't all done at the same time for one episode and often mutiple episodes are filmed over months. So now they are minus three key team members. AND some of the fun of the show was the itneresting little bits of the trio putting things together and learning little factoids. Now that they are gone we're either going to lose the side interests (as well as a decrease in myths possible, which may mean fewer episodes a season) or they'll have to replace them with new cast members.

In this panel interview at about 36:20 minutes in, they tell how they needed more people in order to do more shows as the network wanted, so that means we're either getting fewer episodes next season or we'll be seeing new faces. Interview:

2. Does this mean (since we don't know the contracts) they can't be at any official panel at any convensions with Jamie and Adam? That's another blow.


I watched a Comic Con panel from 2010 where Adam says they [speaking for all them on the panel] just signed on for another seven years. So, it can't be a contract renewel thing; there must have ben on-set problems, maybe some falling out, or something.

Yeah it does appear with the new format that fewer myths will be tested now, and we'll simply be seeing those myths covered in a more in-depth way.

Which I'm actually okay with, since it did feel like they only really skimmed the surface with a lot of these myths, and were a little too focused on slapsticky humor instead (or blowing stuff up for no reason). Although ideally I would have simply given Tori, Grant and Kari their own spinoff show instead of ditching them completely.
