Myriad Universe?

^ The problem with that, obviously, and the reason why dystopias and bleak alternate realities are so much more common than the alternative, is that a better, near-utopian future / parrallel timeline is, by nature, a world with less conflict and thus a world with less potential for storytelling.

I suppose so. It's the same reason why every character in soap operas is always evil. Death, pain, suffering, they all sell. They make things sell more. I wish it wasn't like that, but it's human nature to want to read about other people getting screwed. :(

Damn, I hope I won't need therapy after reading these. :p

You've got me curious, now -- what cheery, optimistic "what if" stories have you been reading? I mean, I'm a big fan of the alternate history genre myself, but between the South-wins-the-Civil-War and Hitler-wins-WWII subgenres, it's not exactly the stuff you would recommend to a chronic depressive.
No wonder I'm whacked in the head -- I've been reading too many alt-histories! :vulcan:

Re: Myriad Universes?

All I'll say is that my title is not An Utterly Shitty Union, and leave it at that...

Actually, I really like that title. A Less Perfect Union. As someone who's read the US Constitution many a time, that title just stands out and makes me very curious about its contents and what the political implications of it might be.

Unless, of course, it's about a particularly bad marriage.... :guffaw:

Re: Myriad Universes?

What if I were to tell you that A Less Perfect Union is actually an alternate version of DS9's "Bar Association"? :vulcan:

You would never reveal a real spoiler like that here (and is that episode even important enough, arc-speaking, to do an entire alternate universe story about?), so I guess it's not.

I'd be more interested in an alternate version of "Profit and Lace", to be honest ... *straightface*

Re: Myriad Universes?

Amazon.com shows what seems to be the Final Cover for Infity's Prism:

I like this cover. It's simple yet elegant.

Not sure why it can't be used.

Hey, it's like the guy said in Fiddler on the Roof: Marriage is a political question. ;)

Now I have this going through my head. Thanks a lot! :p

Muwahahahaha! Oh, Schoolhouse Rock, that bastion of civic mindedness....

Well, hey, I supported the WGA, so why not Rom? :bolian:

They could even turn it into a Trek musical:

I'm Just A Trill
Interplanet Janeway
The Shot Heard 'Round The Quadrant
Assimilation, what's your function?
Lolly, Lolly, Lolly, get your implants here
:D

Re: Myriad Universes?

As-sim-il-ation
A weird sen-sation
Join the Collective and adapt to serve it.

As-sim-il-ation
Make a no-tation
Resistance is futile, so don't even try it.

Eh. Best I could do on short notice. :)

Re: Myriad Universes?

I dunno, I don't see any elegance there. For me it's just bland.

Elegant in the way everything is in terms of layout.. Not much, I know but something about the cover stands out that says what the book's about but I have no clue what that might be.

To each his own I suppose.
