My theory on the Bill-Sookie-Eric triangle on the show True Blood

What if the only reason Eric has an interest in Sookie and want to have his way with her is to make Bill jealous? I've been hearing about some homoerotic tension being stir up between Eric and another character in the new season. What if Bill and Eric had sex with each other in the past which Bill doesn't look back fondly which is why he seem to have such a personal dislike for Eric? Eric sees Bill with Sookie and seem to a bit jealous about it despite his effort to hide it from others. So he's thinking if he has sex with Sookie, Sookie will lose interest in Bill and once that happens, Eric will tose Sookie aside and Bill would be back to being all his to mock and secretly desire. Maybe that would be Alan Ball's way of messing with the expectations of those watching the show who have read the books. So there will be a Bill-Sookie-Eric triangle. Just it won't be the one most of us are expecting.

Interesting theory...I've only watched part of the first season of True Blood so far, and have yet to meet Eric in the show. I've read about five of the books (3, 4, 5, 6 and the most recent one) and...just realized I'd better spoiler tag this...

the unexpected romance between Eric and Sookie is one of my favorite things about the series. Bill kind of becomes history after book three, at least romantically, though I don't know if they'll follow that with the show. It'll be interesting to see if they do. I guess I haven't seen enough of the show to really comment, but this is one of the things I've been wondering about since I started watching it.

I just finished watching the first season of this (fantastic) show on DVD, and maybe I'm missing something, but isn't the love triangle between Bill, Sookie, and Sam Merlotte?

Sookie isn't romantically interested in Sam.

I really like the books and haven't followed True Blood as much, but it's good in its own right.
