My Star Trek Voyager ReBoot

Bry_Sinclair

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Hello all,

I have this project on the go over in Fan Fiction, but thought I would post it here for anyone that doesn't get over there. It's a reworking of the script of "Caretaker" with my new crew.

It is an idea that sprung up on another forum, where someone suggested that Janeway had been the XO on the Enterprise-D. I took that and thought about what Voyager would have been like with Riker in command. The U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656 is the second Intrepid-Class ship commissioned, and Riker's first command (at just the age of 36). The ship is pulled into the Delta Quadrant and faces a 75 year journey home. His senior staff is somewhat different from the televised one.

Jonathan Frakes as Captain William Riker (CO, Human)
Michelle Forbes as Lt. Commander Ro Laren (XO, Bajoran)
Tim Russ as Lieutenant Tuvok (Sec/Tac, Vulcan)
Alicia Coppola as Lieutenant Aiva Stadi (Sciences, Betazoid)
Neal McDonough as Lieutenant JG Sean Hawk (Conn, Human)
Roxann Dawson as Lieutenant JG B'Elanna Torres (CEO, Human/Klingon)
Nicole de Boer as Lieutenant JG Ezri Tigan (Counsellor, Trill)
Dan Gauthier as Ensign Sam Lavelle (Ops, Human)
[TBC] as The Doctor (CMO, Hologram)
Sam Worthington as Neelix (Guide, Talaxian)
Jennifer Lien as Kes (Medic, Ocampan)
Wentworth Miller as Seven of Nine (Astrometrics, Human - former Borg drone)

The new script can be fround here (it's still a WIP, though should be finished this weekend): http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=133758

Whilst photomanipulated images of the new crewmembers can be found here: http://stpma.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5043

I hope you enjoy it,
Bry

I'm sorry but I'm not liking the choices in cast changes.
I don't find half the actors named have the range of acting skills to pull off the characters they're supposed to portray. Wenthworth Miller & Sam Worthington have no other expression other than "mad moody face".

As opposed to Ethan "so irritating I wanted to toss him out an airlock" Philips and Jeri "only here as I have huge breasts" Ryan?

The characters of Neelix and Seven are very different in my little universe. Neelix is a more rugged, roguish character, with a darker past. Whilst Seven was one of the eighteen crewmen that was assimilated from the hull section the Borg cut out of the Enterprise's hull in System J-25 in 2365. He wasn't a child when he was abducted and mutilated. He had a life that was taken from him. If that wouldn't make you mad and moody I don't know what would.

When I cast my projects, I always go for the look of the actor, rather than their ability. There have a few instances I've stumbled across someone that just fit my mental image of the character, even though I've never heard of them before.

Don’t be so superficial.

There’s more to Ryan’s smoking hot body than just her breasts. ;)

Sounds like a new story or wierd parallel universe rather that a reboot and not fussed about your choice of cast. Frakes is a ham actor and would never be able to carry off his own series. Also, Neelix was never meant to be a dark moody character, but a lovable rogue that was a cross between a guinea pig and a meerkat (that is certainly not Sam Worthington).

I'd give up reboot reference and go write a whole new story with new ideas if you want to use that cast.

If you want a darker Neelix that can be taken seriously in a darker role, get Ron Perlman to play him (and make the Talaxians look like Golems or something). It's what I did in my own VOY redo.

I'll admit, I was a little dubious when I first started to read, but it doesn't sound that bad.

If I had to change anything it would be to somehow include Kate Mulgrew and ditch Ro Laren and Kes. Never was a fan of either of those two.

Wentworth Miller as Seven certainly came as a (welcome) surprise! :techman:

I really liked both Ro and Kes so I wanted to include/keep them. I could have included Lieutenant Commander Kathryn Janeway as Chief Science Officer, but I loved Stadi (she was one of those characters that was killed off needlessly, I always thought) and wanted her onboard as well.

But like I said, this idea sprung from a proposal that someone made about Janeway being Picard's "Number One" throughout TNG.

Fair enough on Ro/Kes - 'tis your project after all! :)

Have to agree with you when it comes to Stadi. She seemed to be quite feisty and probably would have made for some great banter and conflict between her and Torres.
In fact she's who I've modelled the Helm Officer on in my works.

As for Janeway, I like the idea of going back to her early years, I can see her being the outspoken second in command. Perfect foil for Riker.

"Caretaker" is now finished.

And Richard Armitage has been cast as the new EMH.
Guy of Gisbourne as the EMH? eeek.
:p

Kinda like how they did the casting for ENTERPRISE.
