My son and anime

I decided early in my children's life that they could ask me any question about sex and I would honestly answer it. I remeber how confused i was about sex when I was young.

I have had conversations with one son about oral sex - whether it is safe etc and whether all girls will do it.

I have also had a conversation with both sons about the size of women's breast in a porn magazine. This conversation started when my son had done some shopping for me. I went to get some milk out of the bag of groceries and there was a magazine in the bag. I picked up the magazine and commented that the woman on the front cover's breast could not be natural. One son said he reckon she had had breast implants. My youngest son asked if the men in porn magazine usually had enhancements. I said I wasn't sure but that there was such a thing as penile enlargement.

Neither me nor my sons were embarassed by this conversation. It is sad that so many people hve to be grossed out by talk of something so natural.

Embarrassment isn't nearly the same as being "grossed out" -- but that notwithstanding, whether something is natural or not is besides the point; for instance, defecation, which is quite natural, is quite properly not discussed or performed at the dinner table.

My son who is 26 years old loves to watch anime. Except for the occasional sci-fi movie, a handful of TV shows (Dexter, Supernatural and Heroes) and wrestling, anime is about all he watches.

Now I don't look at anime because the characters big eyes freak me out. Therefore I don't know much about anime. Some of the anime he likes is

Ghost in a Shell
Bleach
Black Cat
Full Metal Alchemist
Inu Yashu
ChronoCrusade
Dragonball Z

Is it normal for a young man to be looking at anime (rather than porn)?

I had a roommate in college that was big on anime.

Don't know how normal it is, but his life didn't seem to be adversely affected.

I talk about sexuality with my sons when it is appropiate. I certainly wouldn't ask them questions in front of other people. I just openly discuss whatever they bring up and answer any question that they ask.

I also suggested that my son turn up his music when he had sex with his girlfriend when he lived with us as she was so loud (I never said anything to her however).

Strange example you're giving there. How does that have anything to do with talking with your children about sex? Or do you mean that you should only talk with them about sex in the place that you're sexing when you're sexing? Now that would've grossed me out, personally; having the "sex talk" when you're a kid while your parents are actually doing it.

It's no weirder than someone who watches Star Trek and posts on a message board about it... even though I don't like Anime at all...

Yo, I'd rather my mother think I was a eunuch before she thinks I watch porn. I don't want my mother in that world at... bleeeech!

If you have porn in your room you mother probably knows or at least suspects it. I have had conversations with several women who have 'accidently found' porn in their son's room. At least I have never lowered myself to snooping around in my sons' rooms.

Many of the discussions that I have about porn with my sons have been about what is legal porn and what isn't, what is acceptable in my house (illegal porn and violent porn isn't) including what sort of posters they are allowed to have on the wall of their bedrooms ( tasteful nudes OK), about what is acceptable use of our shared computer and how many free porn sites are infested with malware (just as some games cheat sites are which I have also discussed with my sons) and I have suggested that if the want to view porn on a computer they should buy their own computer to do so - I see nothing wrong with discussing such issues with my sons.

While those are all reasonable discussions related to porn, it's still very strange to me that it would ever come up unless there was a real problem with it. Like, if your son completely trashed your computer with viruses and spyware or something because he was watching porn, I guess I could see laying ground rules. But it's weird to just bring up on its own. But as I said, it's also weird for your sons to be so free to talk about it with you. It's not a bad thing; it's just odd.

I don't have any porn in my room. I watch it all online. I'm fairly sure my mother thinks I'm gay.
Mine sure does. She has already given up on having any grandchildren (which is retarded because I am only 24, and I have two younger siblings  )

The first major discussion we had about porn in my house is when we were a victim of internet dumping as a result of one of my sons going to a porn site. The first thing I knew about it was when I got a very large monthly phone bill. When I investigated it I found out that $80 of the bill was a result of one call. Thank heavens, he only stayed on the computer for about 16 minutes!!! I made him pay for the bill in three fortnightly installments. My son however was chastised about not being careful about the sites he visited not chastised for looking at porn.

One other time I came home, turned on the computer only to discover that the desktop picture wasn't a 'photo I would have choosen". I called both my sons in to see it and asked them who was responsible. I got a 'oops, sorry' from the son responsible. He said he had viewed the picture but had no idea how it got to be a desktop background.

My mother is pissed because I don't want to have kids. Sad thing is, and this is true, the only reason she wants me to have kids is so that I can see how hard it is and why having kids ruined her life.

Ah. Well, in that case, your kids need to be sneakier about their porn.

Well, that's really going to sell you on the idea of parenthood!
