My Pre TOS ship Deckplans

Sorry I uploaded the wrong one, here are the callouts... I think the text is too small and/or the liners are too thick.

Here are the latest plans, ive been trying to finalise C Deck a bit more the past couple of days, just need to do a few spots, the callouts, then its good to go.

As usual theres full downloadable version on my Deviant-art page http://admiraldanev.deviantart.com/ (7283x5146)

Been working on the largest Deck of this ship. Its far from finished and theres some turbolifts in the wrong spots. (it should actually say Deck E down in the title block)

Heres a preview.

Yeah, getting tubolifts to line up from deck to deck can be a real PITA. I talk about that a lot in this document: http://www.starfleetgames.com/documents/deckplan/How_to_Draw_Starship_deck_p.pdf

EDIT: Let me rephrase that: Getting the lifts to line up isn't the problem, it's keeping them from screwing up everything else on the deck that's hard. Get everything to fit nicely on one deck, and the next deck has too much / not enough room around the lifts. P-I-T-A-!!!!

Which reminds me of something I've been meaning to PM you about: Have you ever considered doing a set of plans "for real", as in something that might get published? Amarillo Design Bureau is always looking for people who can create realistic deck plans that fit into their game system.

I did the Federation Police Cutter and have started working on the civilian Armed Priority Transport. I thought about trying to do a Gorn ship (see here:http://www.starfleetgames.com/Starline%202500%20Gorn%20Miniatures.shtml), but that was more than I wanted to chew on.

For the record, I do NOT work for nor speak for ADB, but I do consider Steve Cole and Steve Petrick to be good friends.

I would love to be able to do work like that, unfortunately with the amount of love and care i put into the deckplans, i wouldnt be able to fit with any deadlines.

On the turbolift saga, Being modular in design has made it easy to move sections out of the way of the turbolifts paths, and the locations they are in now and locations i previously had the upper levels too before i rotated them around so that they were more equal around the deck.

I hear you. I put an insane amount of detail into the Cutter plans. But if you look at sample of some of the published ships (see links here:
http://www.starfleetgames.com/deckplanresources.shtml), you'll notice that most don't show all the bells and whistles.

As to deadlines, well, the big project (porting Prime Directive RPG to another game engine) is currently on-hold, so that's not an issue right now. And even if you don't get it done for that project, ADB publishes a twice-a-year Captain's Log magazine, which is where all the current deck plans have been published.

I can't speak to how much they'd pay, but if you're like me it's not about the money anyhow. ;-)

So Ive been trying to work out the best way to draw up a separation line between the Saucer and the Rear Hull. I know i want the most of it to come off in an emergency, and was planning on the separation happening at the double lines thats are at the back of the Saucer, but I also want to keep the upper level the length it is.

Anyone got any suggestions or diagrams they think could work??

If you need me to, I'll try to set some time tomorrow to post an image for you to show this:

In my program, walls are solid lines, and the hull plates on my ship are 50-cm thick. I have a modular section, too, so what I did was put two hull plates parallel with a 25-cm gap between them. At each end and every three meters or so, I put a 50-cm wide connector between the two plates. Not at all sure how that will look with the double lines / hollow walls that you draw with.

If that doesn't make sense, let me know and I'll PM you with the image.

Well now that the holidays are over, Ive gotten back into this project.

Here is Deck C, its probably 97% done, Just got to finalise a couple of areas and start labeling.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks.

Ive been working more on my Daedalus Deck blueprints too in recent days, hopefully I will get a few decks up tonight or some time this weekend coming :)

The watermark is still a bit much. My suggestions:

  • Make the watermark font two or three times as big, and use one that isn't nearly so stick-thin (counterintuitive, I know, but bear with me :))
  • Make it a shade or five lighter. Right now it comes off as the same shade as the actual content, which is one of the major reasons it's a problem. It should be much less visible than the content.

If you rely on the size and thickness of the text to make the watermark visible, you should be able to make it barely brighter than the background and still see it -- a true watermark. That should drastically improve the contrast for the rest of the content, and thus the readability of the work as a whole.

Beyond that issue, I *love* these. I was way too young to appreciate my TNG blueprints when I still had them. :wah:

Well I believe these two plans are finished.....

Let me know what you think...

I have been working on a couple of the Lower Decks also, trying to determine what I want to cram into the Primary "Head" Section and all the excess will fit into the Engineering Section. I am keeping in min the Primary Section will act as a last resort Lifeboat.

As always, larger downloadable version are available on my Deviantart page.

I can't see the watermark at all, and the thin lines that represent the engineering hull (?) are nearly invisible unless I zoom way in.

Am I missing something?

They are definately there, I cant see them on my laptop but can see them completely fine with my PC, they are very faint, but when you go to the full version, they are clearly visible. Yeah I think I finally got the watermark on point Albertese. :)

Okay, found the problem.

Your image is rendered at 7283x5146. I'm on a 30" display, at 2560x1600. The most immediate issue was that I was viewing them directly in Safari; the browser's image resize algorithm is not very good, and made a hash of the image. Saving it out and using Preview made a world of difference.

Are you intending to physically print these? If not, I'd scale back the resolution considerably; it will actually look reliably better at a quarter of that resolution if your intended display is a computer screen. Maybe a Retina Macbook might be an exception (and I'm too lazy to dig mine up to find out ;)), but I would imagine most people don't have those.

I still can't see the watermark without adjusting things, though I see hints of it. If you're going for a true watermark where you have to adjust the colors to see it, the only suggestion I can add is to move it to the bottom layer. I can see hints of it overlapping the ruler lines at the bottom, but not much else. I have to bring it into Photoshop and mess with the brightness and contrast to truly see it.

Beyond what I hope is a helpful assessment, the content is excellent. I can't wait to see more -- I've always been a huge fan of starship blueprints. :)

Is anyone else having issues seeing the watermark? Im just using Mozilla Firefox and can see them here in the forum thread.

Please let me know your thoughts.
