My name is...Khan?

In the 2013 film when spock and kirk were having their interrogation with John Harrison who turned out to be Khan and Cumberbatch in his character mode says His name is...Khan. That was weird, it even came off as bad acting and for a split second I thought chris pine will look at us the audience and give us a wink then get back to character mode as Jim Kirk.

People seems heavily critical of the rip off wrath of khan scene even calling kirk's death the worst part of the film but I have to say the My name is khan line is one of the worst part of the film. it was down right awful even the way Cumberbatch moved his lips, it was as if he wanted to bite someone.

Its ironic because everyone loved ...Hi Christopher, am Nero. Everyone loved that part of the 2009 film including me. Eric banner did such an excellent job there with the line, the calmness and confident in his voice was what made that line so great, for a split second you wont think he was the mad man who murder many of the folks on the Nerada including Kirk's Dad and was about to destroy planet Vulcan.

What happened to the writers, how could they have failed so much from start trek 2009 to star trek into darkness even in dialogue. People may make fun of when spock screams khan but Cumberbatch...My name is khan line is far more cringe worthy than Zarchary Quinto's scream. defiantly one of the lowest parts of the film.

It was staged for drama. A dramatic pause. Khan is a man superior to everyone around him. He almost ruled the world. For the last few years of his life, he's been humbled by Marcus and forced to live under another name. That may have been the first time in quite a while that he told someone his real name or even said it out loud. Being Khan, with Khan's ego, he probably even thought Kirk would recognize it.

Further, how that line was delivered is, I suspect, as much a directorial choice as one by the writers. So, Abrams deserves the blame if how Cumberbatch said it bothers you.

In Space Seed, Montalban is moving his mouth pretty much the same way when he is first revived.

I had no problem with it, as I enjoyed Cumberbatch's performance. Not only that, but given Marcus' obsessiveness over the war effort, I wonder if Khan was required study at the Academy after his becoming the Chief of Starfleet Operations.

This, of course, is only my head canon. I understand why there is frustration over the homage to TOS villains and moments but that doesn't diminish my enjoyment of the film. It still works for me.

I totally loved Cumberbatch as Khan and liked every scene he was in. His version was more menacing and cold than Montalban's, but given that two versions had different experiences after being revived from centuries of suspended animation, it's to be expected that they'd be different, IMO.

And, of course, Ricardo Montalban would never, ever have done anything like that.

People may make fun of when spock screams khan...
I know, right? Some people just can't seem to let go of it.

Let's not have Cumberbatch's delivery of the "My name is Khan" line become another such fixation, OK?

That's where it all started to fall apart for me. I'd actually go so far as to say, everything was brilliant up to that exact point. Only hearing Admiral Marcus' side of the story and Scotty preventing him taking the Enterprise out, by sabotaging the Vengeance, comes close to keeping the interest there. Everything that disappoints me about the second half, stems from the writers not fighting that urge to crib from a better movie featuring Khan and basically my not buying into Cumberbatch as that character for a second.

It was a mistake to have Khan in the film.

It was a bigger mistake to have Cumberbatch (a fine actor, but not right for this part) play him...The biggest mistake involving Khan was that it was Khan in name only. When did Khan become a Brit?

The film would have been much better off if it simply had Harrison be a terrorist who was seeking revenge against the Federation + re-work the ending so it's literally not a line per line rip off/tribute to TWOK...The ending combined with Khan in name only really took me out of the film.

When did Khan become a Mexican? At least there is a history between Britain and India

Meh. Cumberbatch does a lot of overacting in that scene, but to be fair he is only given one scene to explain his slaughtering a bunch of civilians, Starfleet brass, Klingons, and subsequent inexplicable surrender, Benny had to make it count.
If I recall correctly, Mr. Montalban was guilty of some overacting himself.

Indeed. Also, given that in Prime Trek, Khan was identified by historical pictures, modifying his physical features, and background makes perfect sense.

Again, nothing new to Star Trek.
