My mother once told me...

We have all heard them, we probably have even all said them once or twice, and a lot of us probably know that one guy who starts off every sentence with "My mother once told me..." or "Back home we..." or some other variation, then finishes it off with one folk saying or another.

In writing, I try to avoid that kind of thing. However, every now and then its nice to use one (appropriately of course). So, where would I find them? Does anyone got a folk-wiki?

No, I generally tend to write on spur-of-the-moment hiccups of inspiration.

"My mother once told me to wear clean underwear in case I got into an accident. Well, considering the consequences of a pirate attack, I can well say that clean underwear is often irrelevant."
