Is there anyone here who could help me not be so much of an idiot?

(mods, please don't lock this. this is a serious request)

as you can see from many of my posts, I seem to have a hard time applying a filter between my brain and my fingers not to mention making an ass out of myself in the process my trying to force some of my own variety of humor into it which apparently no one gets.

any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Well, my suggestion, judging from this post, is that you need to hold yourself in higher esteem.

Based on your avatar, may I suggest a wooden cigarette as proprioceptive tool and to occasionaly hop and make popping sounds?

;)

I can see that was probably very clever, but I don't seem to understand it.

Your avatar suggests you have Asperger Syndrome.

In the TV series "Boston Legal" a character is said to have Aspergers (a syndrome I believe even I have a mild form of) and of his (many) quirks one is to use a wooden cigarette as what he calls a "poprioceptive tool" and while using it his personality shifts from meeky and awkard to an overbearing ass. Of his many quirks -without the cigarette- he hops, he walks with his hands planted firmly on his thighs, makes occasional "popping sounds" with his mouth when nervous among other things.

A pretty good character, overall, and fitting with the over-the-top nature of all the characters on the show (William Shatner plays a staunch Repbublican, gun-toting man with Alzheimers/"Mad Cow" if that tells you anything) but probably not a very good example as someone with Aspergers.

I would suggest that, if you are typing up a long post, take a break from posting for a second, reread the post, and then try and decide if any general group is being described who might be offended. Not going to help in every case, but it might help prevent accusations of sexism which might not be your intended goal.

In that last thread, for example, you were OK until you said "This might make me sound small minded or ignorant". Then you have to think if you can phrase what you say in a way that isn't going to make you sound that way but still get your point across.

Sounds more like Tourettes. I only ever saw the ep. where Shatner shot out the knees of the child rapist/killer because no one in the firm wanted to represent him.

Well, THAT was funny!

I knew someone would get that one.

Despite your request not to close, "what's wrong with me" threads tend not to play out very well.
