My Little Pony web invasion?

I haven't been bothered by the MLP talk in the least, but then I've not really posted much in Misc lately. If people want to like the show, more power to them, even though the avatars I've seen lead me to believe that the Pony's look like they have an evil plan to talk over the world a la Pinky and the Brain and the cutesyness is just for show.

You mightr be onto something here. ;)

Ok, that was freaking awesome. Thank you Sir. :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

I've found some of the parodies to be amusing. I can still have a bit of fun with it even without watching the show. ;)

The season 2 opener was so awesome because of his involvement, any other voice actor just wouldn't have been the same. Discord was essentialy just Q in another form in the Ponyverse. They did open and end the two parter with scenes based on Star Wars though...

MLP bronyism has hit meatspace. I just got back from the black friday sales and heard two store employees having a serious conversation for 15 minutes about the show and the word "brony" was used more than once. Both of these people were males in their 20s.

I fear for the future of the human race.

Bronies have been around for some time, at least since February of 2010. There are mini-conventions all over the world. Granted they are small in number, where maybe 40 or 50 people may attend. The biggest one I know of had 300 attendees.

Maybe he's suggesting some kind of quantum thing, where we all stop being bronies when we're not being observed by the Internet.

True. Being that the whole thing started as a television show, it was here before it was a hit on the internet. So it was in "meatspace" before it ever hit the web, though the web is where it exploded.

My point was I had only heard of this absurdity on this board and it finally hit my little corner of the real world.

The fact that adult males like a show made for preschool girls is a little disturbing.

Not disturbing, it's just different. As has been mentioned before, Lauren Faust, the show's creator, explained that the show wasn't just for little girls, that the show's writing and production was focused on quality programming for young children and their families, to create something that everyone could enjoy, instead of merely tolerate. The show's concept ignited a spark amongst older people, males and females, between the ages of 16 and 40 (though there are fans of the show younger and older).

The show features concepts such as diversity being a binding element of friendship, rather than a separator, and that one can find these elements in places they would never expect. That is something that is relevant to people of all ages. The content of the show is also aimed at people of all ages, including many moments in episodes that have references that children will not recognize, but adults will understand immediately. The production values are top notch, the voice casting is excellent, the stories are fun, there are moral lessons, and the main protagonists are adults. So no, not disturbing at all once you see the whole picture, just different.

If you haven't watched the show, I would suggest giving it a shot. It is nothing like the previous iterations of "My Little Pony", and is it's own stand alone series.

"Meatspace"?

And I agree - if Lauren Faust says it's okay for adults to watch the show, then it is. She created it - she'd know best.

Also, like I said previously, I refuse to give anyone any shit for watching MLP for one simple reason - because I, a 41 year old man, watch VeggieTales. So I have no right to complain. :shifty:

VeggieTales is a cute little show. I've seen one of the feature films, and I watched the Christmas special the other night on Netflix. The characters are adorable, and there are some good lessons in the cartoon.

J, how many children do you have?

You just described the original TMNT, GI Joe, Transformers and many other cartoons of my childhood. I grew out of those 20 years ago.

Thank you, but I'll pass.

Meatspace as opposed to cyberspace where we are having this discussion now. It's a term I stole from /.

She's just trying to sell her show.

As for your watching veggietales....I'm not touching that with a ten foot pole because I can't find the twenty footer to poke it with.

I don't have any children, but I do have a niece and nephew. My niece watches the show with me, and loves that her Uncle watches the show with her.

Life's too short to watch something you don't like.

Thank you, but I'll pass.
That's fine, but it also means your point of view will be hindered by not knowing the subject matter by which you object.
