^ Well, I think it just came out, or will soon. At least, I think that was why he was doing the promotional appearances everywhere. I saw him talking about it on Conan the other night, and it's why they probably did the whole Justin Bieber ass-kissing fest on 'Glee' the other night.

Yep. He has one movie, a bio pic called "Never Say Never". It's supposed to be how he was discovered and what life was like before and once he became famous. I might check it out when it comes to Netflix Instant Watch.

Meh. Regardless of his music and his following, he seems like a nice enough kid with a fairly level head. Nobody here is even close to the target demographic for which he performs, so I don't see why we should hate him. He'll grow up, his fans will grow up, and then we'll be on to the next teeny bopper sensation. So relax and just let it be. Your blood pressure will thank you for it.

It makes my brain hurt... Lady Gaga is pretty much the same thing as Justin Bieber, except she's the opposite sex, including all the points about being artificially popular and getting by on sex appeal instead of talent.
Yet she's universally accepted while Justin Bieber is left in the garbage bin of music.

Not really seeing whats similar about Bieber and Lady Gaga, other than both are popular. And what the hell is being "artificially popular"? I'm pretty sure both are actually popular with their respective demographics. Gaga strikes me as a talented singer, songwriter and musician. Bieber not so much in the singer area ( I saw him on SNL) and I'm not sure if he writes.

Who said anything about other people's reasons for not watching it? Or for that matter, watching it? I certainly didn't. In fact, I'm not even completely clear on what the heck you are talking about...and have no idea at all about "why people from 'other populations' wouldn't watch a show" (whatever that means).

I said that I don't watch it, the main reason being because I'm not in high school. In actual fact, no adults I know IRL watch it; not even my sister, who loves American Idol, Dancing With the Stars, and all those other musical/dancing shows. And not that it's any of your business, but I have used my sister as a guage for these kinds of things for our entire lives - she has more 'popish' taste in music than I do...and I know that if SHE doesn't like a musical/dancing sort of show, I will definitely not like it. The only people I know who watch it are kids - not even my sister likes it. So there is nothing whatever to recommend it to me, in my day-to-day life. And that IS why I don't watch it. Whether you like that reason or not.

Frankly, I don't give a damn if or why other people who I don't even know watch it. Or don't watch it. Why should I? It's not like it's edging out something that might interest me more or anything. If you love the show, by all means, watch the show. But jeez....don't expect me to make up some reason why I don't watch it, just to make you feel good about yourself.

After all this time on a Star Trek message board, are you really that sensitive to what a bunch of total strangers think about your viewing preferences? Because I have to say - that surprises me alot more than does your watching of Glee. I'd like to think that after all this time here, you'd have toughened up and just said to yourself "Meh. Who cares what PKTrekGirl thinks? I like the show, so fuck her! Maybe we will agree on some other issue, some other day. Or not. Either way, who cares?"

I really don't care whether people like the show. Some weeks I catch it and others I don't feel like watching. What bothers me is the idea that only people in a certain demographic like any given show. You've clarified that you were merely pointing out why you don't watch the show. I'm saying that I think it's a silly reason. I don't watch shows on the Disney channel not because "I'm not in elementary school" but because they don't appeal to my personal tastes.

I don't expect you to make up reasons as to why you don't watch it and I certainly don't expect you to make me feel good about myself. I do wish people would be more open-minded about all different forms of media instead of dismissing things for such superficial reasons. I think it not only limits your own experiences but serves to put down other groups of people (in this case, heterosexual men or anyone not of high school age that watches Glee).

You're right in that this particular conversation is not hugely important. But I have always disliked the tendency to assume that any book, show, or artist appeals only to one group of people.

Well, I'm quite certain that a ton of people watch the show - the ratings are hard to argue with.

All I know is that several months ago, I asked my two nephews (one a junior in high school, one a sophomore in college) if they watched the show, and the unified look I got from the two of them went pretty much like this:

I took that as a 'no' and tried to say something intelligent about music so they wouldn't think I was Out Of Touch With Youth...and met with some seriously epic fail there as well (Ryan characterizes himself as a 'Rap Snob'...so you can imagine how much I have in common with him, musically )

Yeah...that conversation went REAL well. So after that, I stuck to scifi - a topic upon which they think I'm totally hip.

Well, that doesn't follow. If no one gave a crap about them, no one would buy the magazines with them on the cover, and the magazine people would put folks that someone did give a crap about on the magazines, so people would buy them.

Yep. I was completely serious when I made that post, I spend much of my time thinking of and hating Justin Bieber (rather than just seeing him as the latest in a long line of flash-in-the-pan pop nonsense stars.) It was in no way a flow of consciousness just expressing my thoughts on a subject in a (somewhat) humorous manner using strong terms and language for effect.

(Though I still stand by my confusion between young girls being interested in young girl-boys like this as opposed to young boys being interested in developed girls/women.)

This is the internet. It's fill with hyperbole.
