My Justin Bieber Rant

Who cares really? It's not like he's crowding out more artistically worthy acts. In a few years his fans will grow out of it and start trying out more interesting music. Or at least, different music.

I can't understand how is this guy different from any other MTV manufactured crap that's been plaguing this world for years, why do people hate him so much? I mean, there were Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, Britney etc etc etc, all of them made the same forgettable catchy crap ... They all had their 15 minutes of fame and were gone, the same will happen to this kid and someone else will come in his place.

As others have touched upon, this kid is just the latest in a long line of teen idols going back at least as far as Sinatra himself.

Some of them, originally dismissed as fads, turn out to be enduring artists with talent (MJ, the Beatles, Elvis, the aforementioned Sinatra). Most quickly fade into obscurity or, worse, VH1 Reality series (Fabian, Bobby Sherman, David Cassidy, Leif Garrett, the two Coreys, etc.).

But either way, there's little to get upset about.

You have that a little bit wrong. WOMEN like men; LITTLE GIRLS like little boys.

Which doesn't make sense. Ask a young boy what celebrity girl he thinks is the best looking, he's most "in love with" and he's more likely than not to say the name of some hot, fabulous, celebrity whom grown men drool over. At the youngest he might pick a very young, but still post-pubescent, celebrity (like, say, Miley Cyrus.) He's not going to likely pick some pre-pubescent little girl.

So why do girls, who are supposed to be sexually attracted to men who look like they can defend and provide, attracted to a flaky boy-boy like Justin Bieber? What is it that makes a girl go from crushing on the Bieber/pop flake stars (the boys of Hanson also come to mind) to crushing on, you know, men! Men with abs, and pecs and hard jawlines and deep voices?

Why are girls so messed up is what I'm asking.

The first thing you need to know about GIRLS -- not women -- is that they don't like to be intimidated. Six packs, strong jaws, deep voices? As in a MAN? Intimidating.

Boys with soft hair, soft voices, soft skin?

Cuddly.

NOT rocket science there, Trekker. lol.

At least he is a step above most of these manufactured acts. He can actually play an instrument.

I blame the Biebles.

Err.... I mean Beatles.

So these girls sending death threats or rants at the Grammy winner do they not know how the Grammy's work? Do they think she actively did something to "take the Grammy" away from the girly-man lover boy?

Well, his music sucks, but outbursts of ranting hatred against such people rarely amount to much more than jealousy.
Yep. The only thing worse than a 40 years old man who is blindingly jealous of a 16 years old boy is a 40 years old man who thinks he knows what 12 years old girls should like.

I am barely aware of who this Bieber person is, but even without youtubing I am sure he makes the sort of bland crap that will be forgotten in 15 minutes, just in time to make room for the new crappy sensation.

I think the so called artists of today are all manufactured, man they only last a few years, being fans lose interest in them and the faded away after making millions of $$$$$,cant see him or other artists still performing in mid 30s or their eraly 40s.

Taken to another media we have a skinny sparkling vampire who will not bite. But then grown women.......

I like Justin Bieber. There, I said it. I wouldn't want to be dragged dead into one of his movies and would never voluntarily listen to his music, but I think he's a nice, funny kid, who's incredibly down-to-earth considering the situation he found himself in

Well, his music sucks, but outbursts of ranting hatred against such people rarely amount to much more than jealousy.

I find that people being jealous of a 15 year old boy hilarious. Grow up, people.

Though I don't know if he is any good, I've not heard any of his songs. Then again, I find I don't really care to.

I have no idea if I've heard them or not. I assume I have, just because I'm sure one of them would have played somewhere, but I have no clue. This might be the first pop singer that I can say I have no clue whether or not I've heard.

Same here. I generally just ignore things I don't like or have no interest in, to the extent that it's possible. It's hard not to hear about Bieber but I don't think that's reason enough to hate him or whatever.

Who is this kid, where did he come from, and how did he get started? I'm really tired of seeing a little kid get all the spotlight when some of us had to do it the hard way... go to school, get jobs we hate, and then we have to come home and watch these little kids make it big. It really saddens me to see America do this... I live in America, and I don't understand what has happened to the Entertainment/Music Industry.

Well, at least you made it perfectly clear from the start that this is about bitterness with your own life and jealousy over his popularity rather than anything Justin Bieber has actually done.

I don't know much about him, but from what I understand he first got attention for his drum playing skills as a little kid on YouTube, which got him in the door, and his career took off from there.

As far as what has happened to the entertainment/music industry, nothing has happened in terms of children becoming stars. They've been using child stars with varying degrees of talent since the dawn of the industry. Hell, going back even further, Mozart was a child star. What has changed is that the talent pool itself has increased and there are greater opportunities to get a foot in the door thanks to YouTube, social media, recording and editing music on your home computer, reality TV music competitions, and so forth.

They are only going to have problems when they get older... look at Michael Jackson, Gary Coleman, Olsen Twins, just to name a few.
And for every one who has had problems there are hundreds of others who haven't and either their careers faded as they got older and they went on to more mundane jobs and lives, or they were able to continue in the industry and went on to lesser, unchanged, or greater success.

Check these lists below, and you'll find plenty of former child actors and singers who are still active performers as adults; many of whom have gone on to much greater success and lead healthy, productive lifestyles. Not all of them have to have messed up lives as a result of being child stars.

Kid's a girly-voiced punk and when his balls drop his career is over. And God I hate when pop-stars these days (like Bieber and Brittney (during her tenure) wear that head-set thing with the microphone so they look like part singer part Time-Life Operator. Has audio-recording/detecting technology regreessed so far to the point where a giant microphone is needed 2 inches from your head to record sound?

I would have thought it was perfectly obvious that the purpose of the headset mic is to allow them free range of motion around the stage and freedom of movement of their hands and arms while dancing and singing (and drumming in Beiber's case). It has nothing to do with the quality of audio technology and the need to get the mic closer to their head. How you can possibly work up hatred over such a petty thing is beyond me, especially when you don't even understand the purpose behind it.

What exactly makes him a punk beyond the fact that you don't like him? I don't care for what little of his music that I've heard, so I don't work myself up into a lather over it like so many people in this thread have done. It doesn't really affect me.

What I wonder about male pop stars like this is, how does it feel to be idolized and loved by swarms of pre-pubescent/barely pubescent girls? The kid is 16! He's 2 years away from being an adult! What 18 year-old guy wants to have millions of 15 year old girls rubbing one out to his poster?
How does any performer who is idolized and lusted after by fans deal with it? They're probably flattered by having fans, somewhat weirded out by the stuff that goes too far, and most of the time don't put too much thought into it. I don't see how any of that is his problem, though.

For that matter, how do they deal with a bunch of jealous twenty and thirty something weirdos who have no reasonable justification to be angry calling them punks and thinking about young girls (or "fuzz" as you so maturely refer to them below) masturbating to them? By rightfully ignoring them as inconsequential, I'd imagine.

When he was on Conan the other night he said that the over-the-top behavior by some of his fans is strange to him too. Plus, he often uses self-deprecating humor, so it's not like he's gotten too big of a head and doesn't realize his perception amongst much of the non-teen/little girl crowd.

And why are girly, big-lipped, punks like this getting so much fuzz lusting after then? Aren't girls supposed to like, you, know men! People who don't have the voice of a teenage girl (I swear whenever I hear a Bieber song it sounds like a girl singing) and also has the lips/face of a girl?
Glad to see you're really working on your anger and bitterness issues. I'm sure we'll be seeing another "help me change my image" topic soon enough, and once again nothing will be learned from it despite the same things being explained to you over and over again.

Remember like a week ago, when we had the whole discussion about the weird comments directed at Christina Aguilera in the wake of her national anthem performance? This is essentially the same thing minus the feminine-specific insults.

How much of a man can you call yourself when this is happening in your name.
He's not a man, he's a teenage kid. You, on the other hand, are a grown man who is attacking said teenage kid for no reason other than the behavior of his fans (which is not his responsibility), his popularity, him looking and sounding girly (despite you also acknowledging he's still going through puberty), for having big lips, and for using a headset mic. But, by all means, continue to pretend that it's not you who is being pathetic and petty, and that you hold some kind of high ground from which you can judge this kid as a person for no logical reason. Judge his musical talent or lack thereof all you like. But you're attacking him, and clearly have no rational reason to back up your attacks.

Why are girls so messed up is what I'm asking.

So, girls are "messed up" because they don't all conform to your June Cleaver-era image of who they should find attractive? Never mind the fact that you're conflating little girl and teen crushes with more adult concepts like "defending" and "providing."

This whole discussion is friggin' strange, especially with your warped little psychological glimpses into the minds of tween girls and what they should be fantasizing about.

Speaking of weird (and now creepy):

Problem is you start getting erections a couple years before you can get, um, "release" from them. So young boys are horny with no way of getting un-horny beyond just waiting it out. The "emotional place" other than sexual place makes a touch of sense. But I also look at it from an "evolutionary" an animal perspective. On those levels a female should be attracted to the male who can best provide and to best provide a male has to be strong both physically and mentally. Some soft-faced kid singing in high-pitch about feelings doesn't seem to fit that.
Obviously Justin Beiber must be strange. I mean, look who is judging him.

I like to view this whole thing through the old lens of "judge the art, not the artist." I've heard a couple of his songs, thought they were awful and moved on. Beyond that I don't really give a shit.

Oh yeah, he's definitely going to be richer and more successful with women than I could ever hope to be; he's worthy in a cultural sense of a Wikipedia page and I'm not. Who cares, exactly? It's not a fucking contest. The only relation I have with this kid is that I'm a consumer of music and he's a producer of it. I've made my judgment in that regard.

Beyond that and conversations like this thread, concepts like how much ass, press or money Justin Bieber gets are so divorced from my day to day life it's laughable.

Are you saying that's what GIRLS want or what YOU want?!?

I think someone's Freudian slip is showing.

:guffaw:
