My idea for a new series

After some thinking. I have finally got everything together for a new Star Trek series. Now this will be a series which combines both serious action adventures and some humor as well.

The series takes place 10 years after Voyager arrived back to Earth. Starfleet Headquarters are looking for a way to the Delta Quadrant via the Bajoran Wormhole (Deep Space Nine) and the Gamma Quadrant. Therefore a new ship the USS Discovery is assigned to this mission, to find the best way possible to the Delta Quadrant.

The main crew members are:

Captain Jimmy "Mac" Taylor. A grand-grand-grand-grandson (or whatever) to the legendary New York CSI investigator Mac Taylor. A qualified team-leader, great diplomat and skilled officer. I imagine Gary Sinise in the role for this character.

Commander Keiran MacDuff. Well, maybe the Satarrans have joined the Federation and the Satarran agent from the TNG episode "Conundrum" has become officer on this ship or this is the real Commander MacDuff who the Satarran agent was a clone of. Never mind, he will be the perfect action character and I want Eric Anderson as actor here.

Lieutenant Elizabeth Shelby. The same character as in the TNG episode "Best Of Both Worlds". The perfect female action character. I want Elizabeth Dennely in the role. An alternative character could be Ro Laren but unfortunately I doubt that Michelle Forbes will do that role again.

Lieutenant Ezri Dax. This character got a too short time in DS9 and is worth a second chance. I imagine her as the perfect Chief Of Security. Nicole DeBoer as the actress.

Ensign ALF, a.k.a Gordon Shumway. Due to Henry Starling's dabbling with time, poor Gordon found himself transported to the 24th century. Since Melmac has joined the Federation recently, he's given the chance to show off his piloting skills on this new ship.

Lieutenant Sheras. The Andorian Chief Engineer. Every other Trek series have had a Vulcan, a Klingon, a holographic doctor or an android. Now it's time for an Andorian.

Ensign Kalimash. A Tamarian Engineer. I always like to have a Tamarian on the ship. Imagine the Captain's reaction when he asks about the status of the warp engines and get the reply: "Shaka, when the walls fell!"

Lieutenant Kes. Well, it's me who is coming up with this idea. Therefore it wouldn't be complete without Our Favorite Ocampa. She will be the Ship Counselor and also expert on the Delta Quadrant. If jenn ifer Lien can't or won't do the role as Kes this time, I would recommend Kirsten Dunst or Laura Harris. They have the skills and the looks.

Dr Thaddeus Mabuse Tapp. The ship's doctor. A somewhat mysterious man, very skilled in his profession but also a bit odd because sometimes he can start talking with his patients about "the consistence of this particular beautiful pill", be seen walking around the ship whistling or singing the Rolling Stones song "Mother's Little Helper" or Fleetwood Mac's "Doctor Brown" or surprise female patients by singing "I'm the Medicine Man, the doctor of love" (Whitesnake song "Medicine Man") and then all of a sudden come up with a cure which will save a whole planet. I would like to see Ted Danson in that role.

The helmsman and the ship's counselor have a nice chat in the mess hall of the USS Discovery

While recasting Kes is controversial, I suggest Cady McClain, most famous as Dixie on All My Children. I always thought that she and Lien had a similar look and quality.

Well, hmmmmmmm........there actually is a similarity.

Then I have three options.

Honestly, I hate the idea of recasting any Trek character, especially Kes. But if it could help in undoing the damage to the character which was done by Berman and his gang, then I could consider it.

Another option would be to cast Kes's daughter, and thru her backstory reveal Kes's redemption.

I have a half-written fanfic that looks at Kes' return to Ocampa, saving her people and giving life to a "copy" of herself (not a duplicate) called Linnis. It's posted somewhere in the fanfic section.

While recasting Kes is controversial...

Controversial? I think not. I pretty much doubt that anyone other than a few die-hard Voyager fans care about the Kes character anymore, or anyone else on Voyager for that matter.

Somewhat unnecessary since I already have solved the problem in my "Coming Home" story where Kes is given a human lifespan and the events in that horrible season 6 Voyager story are explained by the fact that the awful creature we did see in that garbage episode was either Suspiria in disguise or a malevolent being from another universe.

Great. Since all your resources and planning are in order, I look forward to seeing it on TV in 2017.

Does your story line explain the reduction in rank?
Oh dear, I simply had forgotten Shelby's rank.

And we already have a Commander.

Then I have to go for Ro Laren instead!

I look forward to it myself! ;)

Ooo. I love the Captain's character, is it possible the lead character could be the grand, grand, grand grand daughter of a great CSI agent?;)
As for the Discovery, I think it should be a mission where they don't seek to return to Earth ever. So there should be a module of Warp propulsions near the pylons of the nacelles on the designs; to give the ship more speed. The Andorian could be a lonely person who've created a Holographic Engineer Assistant, an AEH, to be his confidant.

As for Shelby, it could be the daughter of the Shelby seen in TNG. Could be interesting.

So, you have Kes as counselor, but you already have an experience therapist on board, Ezri Dax. Seems odd to have an expert change professions but it does happen. You could boost Kes into something more important like Stellar Cartography since she would have some experience in that section of space.

As a whole it would be fun to write it as a script on the fan fiction thread of your own. Make it a 5 act structure, it'll be fun to read I think.

Or Shelby pissed off one too many people and lost her rank, she is now in a position of having to rebuilding her reputation and professional career. She was busted to ensign and only recently has been promoted to lieutenant junior grade.

Ouch, from Commander to Lieutenant and down to Ensign, at that point why would Star Fleet want to keep her around. Court Martial her and be done with it. ;)
It will definitely be interesting to see how Shelby would react to the first officer of the ship; she might be a go to person for advice or mentor of the role.

The reduction in rank likely would have been the result of a courts marital (I think Shelby would refuse a Captain's mast). Her sentence could have included a multiyear "no resignation" prohibition. Shelby would retain all her training and skills, she would just need to prove herself from scratch.

Maybe I can keep Shelby after all!

I think that she's a good character.

The idea of her being demoted is a good one.

She was probably demoted for winning too many times over Picard and Riker in that poker game they had going on the Enterprise. ;)

Does this mean you had a thought of getting rid of Shelby at some point? Maybe transfer and regain her rank? The Grand Captain dies and Shelby get honorably promoted? I'm just asking. I never had any interest or an investment in another infallible character. Death would be too easy for her. I would rather her have an Empire Strikes Back moment where Admiral Nechayev reveals she's her mother.

Didn't Kes basically grow old in Voyager and would most likely be dead 10 years after Voyager got home? Or am I misremembering ?

I like the overall idea though.

No!

In my "Coming Home" story which takes place in the beginning of Voyager's season 7, she was given a human lifespan.
