My horse nearly died today!

nacelle

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I just got back from quite a long trip to the US and had just got off the plane at Heathrow when i got a call to say my horse was down and couldn't get up.
The lady looking after her whilst i was away had called the vet who called me and said that there was nothing she could do for her and that she was on her way out.
I was somewhat in hysterics in the middle of the airport. I called my friend and asked her to go down to the stables. How do you make a decision like that after coming off a long flight with no sleep?
So i was totally panicking and struggling on my own with a bunch of luggage and trying to make and take phone calls whilst trying to get to the train!
Anyway i was trying to figure out the underground when another call came to say that she had just got up!!!! One minute she was lying at deaths door and another she just suddenly recovers and gets up!!!!!
The vet thinks she may have had a cardiac event like a heart attack as she was barely breathing and the vet couldn't find a vein. She is getting quite old, shes 23 and we all thought she was having arthritis problems so i was stuffing a bunch of supplements into her to try and aleviate that but its not that as anyone with arthritis doesn't just suddenly get up!
The vet wants to do an ecg on her and run more tests but right now im totally jetlagged and totally relieved she is still here. If i had lost her while i was at the airport i would have just got the next plane back the states and not come back!
I actually missed my train from paddington and had to get the next one even though i got the heathrow express which cost me a fortune!
Need sleep now but felt the need to post.

Well good luck, and I hope your horse ends up being okay!

J.

Sorry to hear that, nacellle! I know pets can be like family (my kitteh certainly is!). I hope your horse feels better and you can get some peace of mind. *hugs*

I hope your mare is okay! I have horses and I know how terrifying that call can be when your horse is sick and there's nothing you can do. Here's hoping the tests show something easily fixable and your old girl has many good years yet.

Wow I hope you got a really good night sleep nacelle. You deserve it. I hope everything goes well with your horse, they are really beautiful creatures.

I'm glad your horse recovered, nacelle. It's terrible to be away and trying to get home when a call like that comes. I hope the vet is able to diagnose and treat whatever is wrong.
