My history with the Ewok's.

I asume everyone has their own personal tale about what impact the Ewok's had on them. This is what they meant to me. I think I have mentioned this years ago but when I was a kid I wasn't a sci-fi fan. I didn't become one until my senior year in high school were I started to get into TNG reruns and then the other Trek shows and eventually all science fiction. This all started back in 1994.

As a kid though I did watch a few sci-fi stuff from time to time and one of those were the Ewok movie's and I got to admit I liked them. In fact I liked them just as much as "Star Wars." Granted the only thing I recall about them today is a little girl who was a princess and old guy and a castle but all the details have been erased from my mind.
I also loved the Ewok cartoon. Frankly I don't know what I was thinking but I really loved a lot of garbage back then from things like "Growing Pains" to "Different Strokes." I didn't even know I was supose to hate the Ewok's until I read one of Mark Altman's "Sci-FI Universe" magazines that did a issue about the 50 thing wrong with "Return of the Jedi" and then the "Clerks" jokes about "Star Wars."
I got to admit even today I don't mind them all that much. They don't feel over the top awful like Jar Jar but more like silly Teddy Bears.

I hear ya. I never minded the Ewoks either. I liked, and still like, the Ewok movies. They were imaginative, and they did feel to me that they expanded the world of Star Wars.

I couldn't stand the Ewoks. For me their appearance drug the movie down and their "win" over the legion of the Emperor's best troops wasn't believable. The movie would have been better off without them in it.

I loved the Ewok movies as a kid--well, Ewok movie; I only had 'Battle for Endor' taped off of the telly. I saw a bit of 'Caravan of Courage' at some point though not all the way through. I do remember thinking it was much scarier because of the bit where the older brother got this arm grabbed from inside the tree (shut up, I was very young OK?!) ;)
Got the DVD since and...yeah, they really don't hold up well at all.

Used to watch the cartoon as well, though I don't have a very strong memory as to whether I watched it because it had Ewoks or just because I was at the age that I'd watch about any cartoon going. Probably a bit of both.

I never liked the Ewoks, even when I was a younger.
After the darker TESB and the death of Yoda, I thought they were to childish

I love them because they're cute and furry and they eat people.

They did have an impact on me.. I named my cat Wicket and I had him for about 13 years. He was very fierce and smart and also of course furry and cute, you didn't mess with him. And now ewoks will be special to me for the rest of my life because of him.

Also am I the only one who feels sad in "Return of the Jedi" when the one Ewok gets killed and you see the mom feel sad at what she just saw. At least that is how that scene has always played out in my head.
As for their ability to fight off storm troopers I felt it made for some intresting action by seeing people use primitive means to overwelm a more advanced army.

I often hear this one, but two points:

1) The Ewoks didn't do it alone - there was a Rebel squadron (inc.Han and Leia) who helped out.
2) It's not like "the whole Empire" was on Endor. We don't actually get a sense of just how many troops are stationed there. As for "the Emperor's best troops" - the previous two movies established that "best troops" is a very relative term when it comes to stormtroopers...!

I loved those scenes with the stormtroopers cramming Ewoks into the torpedo tubes and firing them at the rebel ships.

1. There's no 's in Ewoks.

2. Now, years later, I can sorta see how George didn't want to get too gritty in ROTJ. SW77 and TESB had already been in dark and gritty territory. Better to end the trilogy in a more fun way. Endor Wookiees ripping the arms off of stormtroopers after waves and waves of the Wookiees had died to make it through the deforested buffer minefield around the secret entrance bunker might have been just a tad too much to the end the trilogy with a happy fun feeling. I've made peace with Wicket.

I loved the Ewoks. As a child I probably watched the first Ewok Adventure more than the original trilogy. It may have been the first Star Wars movie I saw. When I used to pretend I was in Star Wars, it was always hanging out with the Ewoks. My favorite was Wicket, although I did like that badass lumberjack Ewok.

I still have my Ewok Village that I bought at 9 years old in 1983. My kids occasionally play with it now.

I recall the plastic on that being fairly thick so it could hold up for a long time. Kenner did some good stuff.

That Cookie Monster stuff was hilarious. Now I want to see a battle between those versions of the Sesame Street characters and the Ewoks.
