My Guess as to what the next one will be about.

As long as it doesn't have a villain bent on revenge and a super starship, I'll be happy. :p

It'll be the Borg.

NO, it won't! If it's the Borg, the title should be Star Trek: The Death of a Movie Franchise

TPTB will scour the original 79 episodes, even The Cage and pull an idea from that seeing as they will be into their 5 year mission when this movie is released. I'm sure it will include the Klingons also.

The Borg died with TNG unfortunately.

They could take a page out of Shatnerverse/STO and go the V'Ger + Ilia = Borg route.

They'll probably get confused and merge V'ger with the Whale Probe from ST IV. Plus the Borg.

Plus a Klingon war.

Oh, and Khan will escape and be recaptured/killed -- that will be the Bond-esque teaser that bears absolutely no relationship to the rest of the film.

It will be three hours long.

I can barely wait till 2016.

So it's unfortunate, but if it is, it's the death of the franchise. I'm not sure I follow.

I would guess that they will take 2 or 3 TOS episode plots that most easily translate to a big budget movie and combine them into a story somehow. War with the Klingons isn't very interesting to the widespread moviegoing audience. Doomsday Machine could be a provocative "A" plot, but a movie would need more than that.

TNG wore out the Borg, who was Captain Picard's nemesis. They could have made an epic movie with the Borg, instead we got First Contact which to me didn't measure up to The Best of Both Worlds.

The Borg Queen? C'mon! Voyager and Enterprise both wore it out a little more. TNG and The Borg are both finished due to bad writing.

So, what is it that you don't follow?

I'd also put my money on Klingons or the Borg. The writers had at least three years to come up with something interesting for Into Darkness and we ended up with a convoluted Khan rehash. Expect them to continue working their way down the list of things the general public associates with Star Trek.

You can't have a V'ger movie. Too esoteric. Movies these days want a "bad guy" or "villain."

I say Klingons. That was most heavily set up, I think. Klingons are a staple of Trek, and best known by the "general movie audience" the new makers are after.

The Vengeance wasn't really central compared to the other two though. It served it's purpose and wasn't gratuitous.

The Doomsday Machine unexpectedly arriving and interrupting a Fed-Klingon War would be pretty cool. Our Heroes forced to team up with their Klingon enemies to defeat the planet-killing Doomsday Machine. Classic Trek storyline.

It would also be cool to see them actually go exploring and find a cool new civilization and an accompanying problem.

see: The Cloud Minders, Tholian Web, Errand of Mercy, A Taste of Armageddon, etc...

Yeah, I think I would actually love a story like this.

Vger was dealt with in the comics.

Probably Klingons, I doubt we will have the Borg as the distances between their space and the Fed are too great.

Don't think we will have anything about the Genesis device as Dr Marcus is a weapons specialist in this timeline.

Lot of foreshadowing over a war with the Kilingons in Star Trek ID so perhaps we will get that.

I am curious to see if they base the next film during the first five year mission or after like the original films. That will narrow down the possibilities once we know which.

The Borg aren't a good movie villain unless you do what First Contact did which was the downfall of the Borg in most ways.

Distances don't really matter in this universe.

Klingon's seem to be set up for the next film. But I'm going with Gary Mitchell.

Yeah, Kirk went from Earth to Kronos in a single day, so I don't thin travel time time will keep the Borg out if the producers want them.
