Hercules, Zorro and Xena?

Oh, yes; giants of screenwriting.

ah so thats Why I hated the movie (the other reason beyond Bay's one trick directing style)

...and to an extent they and Abrams really are 'saviors' in that they used their clout at Paramount to get Trek back to the front burner with a big budget movie. That is something very few people thought would happen this decade.

This is so true. It struck me when i heard about JJ Abrams that if he didn't want to do this - and it wasn't a solid prospect at the time - Star Trek would remain on the back burner. Without JJ, we'd never see a Trek production until, say, 2010 at the earliest. I reckon. :)

But is that a bad thing? Hell, there was a gap of five years between TAS and TMP, and a full decade between TOS and the first movie. The gap between ENT and the new movie will only be three years.

Although bearing in mind that we're talking about ENT and NEM, maybe to the general public it'll seem more like seven years since the last time anyone remembered seeing new Star Trek... :D
