My First Filling!

Lucky Dog!

I must've been around 7 or 8. Pretty early, but my parents didn't make us brush. Fortunately for me, I build up very little plaque. Unfortunately for me, I lock my jaw at night and didn't have a night guard--8 molars are gold crowns, 3 of those had root canals, 1 of those 3 root-canaled teeth had to be replaced with an implant. 15 gold crowns on those 8 teeth--I damaged the crowns and they've had to be replaced.

I have had more x-rays than most people--plus the mega x-ray angiogram. I'll likely Hulk-out someday.

I had a load of teeth taken out in my early teens to make room for the other teeth. But other than that I've had very little done. I can remember getting a filling when I was younger than that, but which tooth it is or even if it's still in my mouth, I have no idea!

I needed dental work for a cavity before I was even old enough to brush unsupervised. I have the worst teeth ever. Every time I would go to the dentist they'd tell me I had three more cavities and one didn't believe that I was brushing and flossing and yelled at me until I started crying.

I stopped going to the dentist.

Sounds just like me. Bad teeth genes. I've never been to the dentist and not had at least one cavity. One time, in my early teens, I had 10 cavities in one visit. Lovely. I have stopped going to the dentist because it just feels like a waste of time. Why put myself through the misery bit by bit....I am waiting until I've saved up some money someday in the future to go to one of those guys that knock you out and fix things all at once.

By the way, you will definitely want Novacaine. Though the shots themselves are very painful to me, it is better than the drilling. The whole experience is awful though, I feel sick just thinking about it.

I've always felt the Novocain shot like a fingernail pressing against my gum for a few seconds. Really not that bad.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks like this.

My mom has a number of fillings --mostly from childhood, I think-- and as a result, she was almost fanatical about me brushing properly while I was growing up. But I'm not complaining: at 27, I currently have no fillings at all, and I hope to keep things that way. :D

I've been tortured by dentists/orthodontists all my life

Damn, that's quite the list of procedures.

I fear for the dental profession when you do.

Yeah, I just got back from the dentist and it was a breeze. The needle was exactly like you describe: fingernail on the gum. And the drilling bit was weird and tingly but not bad at all. Admittedly it was only a small filling, but still, I was impressed. I took a couple of paracetamol (acetaminophen/tylenol/whatever it's called in your part of the world) before going, just in case though!

I have to say, this dentist is very good - pleasant manner, nice professional work with clean results and it was interesting to see photos of the process before, during and after. The colour-matching between the composite & my own teeth is practically perfect (natch!).

Now I just have to wait until my lip stops feeling like it's the size of the iceberg that hit the Titanic and all will be well in the world again.

I had one temporary filling and one permanent filling when I was a kid.
I remember when I went to get the temporary filling all I could hear from the treatment room was the dill  I think the women before me was having every tooth filled but when I went in he just popped some stuff in my tooth and Job done took about 5 minutes.
I did not go to the dentist between the ages of 15-24 but when I stated going again I needed two fillings but I did not have local anaesthetic I could not be bothered to wait for it to take efficient, but when I needed a third filling they made me have a local anaesthetic.:(
I think my dentist thinks I am scared of her she always trying to put me at ease when I am fine.

I've yet to need a filling at age 29.

For most of my life I thought that people who are afraid of the dentist were wimps. Then I had my wisdom teeth removed. :(
