My DVD player has spared me

I've been rewatching the whole of DS9 lately, and I've come across the oddest, yet I think beneficial thing. My DVD player today, absolutely refused to play a certain episode. It would just lock up after pressing play. This only happened with one episode though. The rest of the episodes on the disc are fine. What episode? Well, it's Let He Who Is Without Sin.

Oh dear. How terrible a thing. Well, I guess I'll just have to move on to Things Past and skip this "gem" of an episode. What cruel fate.

Hilarious huh, that the episode is so bad that even my DVD player refuses to play it.

^^^^
I had a copy of that disc with the exact same problem. Got it replaced, though. Yeah, the episode sucks but I hated having a defective disc.

When watching season 2 last month my DVD player insisted on playing each episode in German unless I specifically told it to do so in English every time I turned it on. :wtf: Damn Germans, first they take my country and now they try to take away my precious DS9. :shifty:

I had the opposite problem. When I first watched DS9 it was via video rentals. VERY eagerly anticipated getting to the Trials and Tribbleations ep. Well the dvd rental was actually broken, the tape was snapped. That was terrible but I returned it (they put it back on the shelf, such a winning store it was..) and they ordered me in another video from another store of that ep. That took a week, but finally got it. Put it in, it did not work. Just spinning and snowing and burping. Nothing. That was it, there were no more available to order :(

A year later I found a pristine video in a second hand store with that episode. It was so new you could hardly get the case open. Of course I bought it.. took it home, it DID NOT WORK. Just about cried. Didn't see Trials and Tribbleations until I bought the whole dvd set.

That's so interesting- I have a disc with that episode on it and I've never seen the end because it freezes up about halfway through!

Here's my fun DS9 DVD story. It happened while watching "The Wire."

Then Bashir goes off to see Enabran Tain. And things go horribly wrong.

Bashir gets Tain to agree to tell him how to save Garak. Then he does the Columbo "just one more thing" thing and asks about Elim.

Tain chuckles and says that Garak is a master of "obfuscation as always. Elim

The DVD freezes at 41:12 into the episode. No shit. At the climax of the story, just as we're about to get the big reveal, the DVD freezes. I try to run it back, then run it forward. It simmers for a few seconds, then up pops the Paramount logo and the "dun...dun. dundundun dun!" fanfare.

My wife and I both collapse into hysterical laughter.

After 15 minutes of trying to clean the DVD and get it to work, we're no better off.

Yeah, I could easily go to MA and see who Elim is, but I want to enjoy seeing the reveal. So I'm going to get a new DVD sent to me.

We aren't totally sure who Elim is.

My wife says it's actually Garak.

I think she might be right, or it's Garak's real brother, or Garak's family's hereditary enemy who he was never friends with, or the Cardassian Santa Claus (or Easter Bunny), or the Cardassian equivalent of Oddysses' "NoMan" reply to the Cyclops.

This was simultaneously the funniest, and most frustrating thing, that's ever happened to me while watching Trek.

We waited two days to find out who Elim was, and my wife was right. We still laugh every time we hear the Paramount stinger.

I think all copy of DS9 that have Let He Who Is Without Sin on it doesn't play. It's like Paramount knew no one liked it so they sabotaged it.
