My dog got hit by a car

:(

We rushed her to the emergency pet hospital in Berkeley, and they took her right in.

The doctor on duty said that she was "shocky, but stable". They're doing some X-rays and said they'd call us when they had the results.

The bill will at least be $1150, and could be up to about $1300.

:(

Having lost two cats to the road outside my house I can sympathise. I hope she recovers quickly, Valeris.

We live on the main street in our city, something I've never liked (it's a pain in the ass to get in and out of the driveway), which didn't help.

However, the fact that we live right by a stop sign on the street probably did help, since the driver had already started to slow down.

I'm glad your pet is going to be okay. What's her name?

Do you know who hit her? Any chance of getting him to pay the bills?

Ginger. That was the name the animal shelter had given her.

We decided to give her a full name (we've done that with all of our dogs) and so she's Ginger (after the actress, Ginger Rogers) Marie (after Marie Antoinette)

I don't know the man, and my dad was the one who interacted with him. Since she ran out into the street, we'd be the ones at fault. We're lucky his car wasn't damaged and that he's not suing us.

Thanks Randi and everyone!

We got her back around 7:00 or so, and she seems to be doing fine. The people at the emergency pet hospital told us to have her take it easy for about a week.

Yeah. I thought my mom would have a heart attack when she saw the vet bill.

Yeah, it cost me a fortune when my Cat got hit by a car; especially when I took him to an eye specialist to try to save his eye.

^my first cat lost an eye. his name was Bubba. sadly, a few years later he got out of my apartment and run over by a car. :(

I'm glad your dog in on it's way to recovery.

Maybe your conversation wasn't in vain. . .

I tell ya, it's given me a lot more to think about.

and now you have one more thing to be thankful for.

when I was very little, my parents had a boxer named Ginger. I remember trying to ride her like a horse. it didn't work out real well. I also remember she had a real talent for gettin' outta the yard.

I think it's great that you've taken in a dog from a shelter. more people should do the same.

that's great news! :techman:

got any pics of her?

Here she is in a pic from this morning, after we brought her home:

Here are some more from when we first got her from the shelter:

Here's her "brother", whom we rescued from the shelter a few months ago. (They were born on the same day in the same year. We call them the "Twins":

I hope your dog will get better soon.

I am shocked with the price of having a dog looked at after a illness or accident.

I know when my dog was sick and she needed medical attention we were told they would only come out and visit if you had 175 dollars up front.

i was not paid intil the following day so my dog had to suffer until then.

We treat humans better than animals

You dog is beautiful

Is she alright

Did she have any injurys after that accident

Happy to see your best friend's home. She's a very nice looking dog and so is her brother.

Glad your Dog is ok, have been through the same situation too. Just take extra care in future it doesn't happen again.

I'm sorry to read about this happening, Valeris. Hopefully Ginger will be on the mend and back to her old self as soon as possible ... but I can't imagine the oh-so-fun inner turmoil that you guys must be going through. I'm sure you'll agree with me that it's far preferable to deal with financial burden than the loss of a beloved pet. Still, I'm hoping for the best for you all.

The people at the emergency pet hospital took her in (we had called ahead) and like a minute later came out with a form asking us if we wanted to authorize IVs and everything, with a minimum payment of $450. So, even if she had been okay and there was nothing wrong, we would have had to pay that $450 period.

It's insane.

Fortunately she's doing fine now. She's been resting and just sort of taking it easy since she got home. Apart from some soreness and tenderness, as well as some scrapes and her pneumothorax, she's doing fine.

The two make quite a pair. It's funny, actually. When we got Ginger, her tail, for the most part, is curved up, sort of like a question mark. When we got Genghis, it wasn't but two days that his tail curved up that way as well. Now, if you're sitting at the table, you can tell where they are because these furry question marks are circling  Sort of like sharks in the water, but not as dangerous and much cuter.

Glad your Dog is ok, have been through the same situation too. Just take extra care in future it doesn't happen again.

We've been all on pins and needles, being extra careful with watching her. It's still probably to early to tell, but she seems to be sedate, and isn't rushing the doors like she used to. I'd wait until this week is over before saying anything conclusively.

your "twins" are beautiful Valeris.

what's Ginger's brother named?

Genghis (Maximus or Augustus. My sisters can't agree on which one was chosen for his middle name).

Completely agree with you.

Fortunately, the money is owed to my aunt, and not to a bank or someone else.
