We rushed her to the emergency pet hospital in Berkeley, and they took her right in. The doctor on duty said that she was "shocky, but stable". They're doing some X-rays and said they'd call us when they had the results. The bill will at least be $1150, and could be up to about $1300.
All my warmest wishes to the recovery and health of your furry friend, Valeris. Hopefully a way can be made for you to afford payment for the work that is being done.
My aunt paid for it, but we owe money to them already... *sigh* It seems like ever since about 2005 or so, money problems have amplified. I started conversing with God while I was waiting, which I haven't done in quite a while. Me too.
Well then, my warmest thoughts to you, and a hope that a viable financial solution for your own problems presents itself.
My nightmare! Your poor dog and poor you... must be a shock! I hope she gets well soon again and greets you happily barking and tale-wacking. TerokNor
Poor dog. Best of luck to you and your pet. And I have to say...vets charge pretty crappy prices just because they can.
I just got off the phone with the emergency pet hospital. She's fine! The worst thing wrong with her was a deflated lung, but it didn't need to be medically managed. She'll need rest in the coming days, but we're going to pick her up early tomorrow morning. I feel so relieved right now.
Hmm.... Is that what "getting the wind knocked out of you" actually means? Does she get to eat bacon flavored ice cream for a couple of days?
I tell ya, it's given me a lot more to think about. I'm not sure. The doctor said it was a pneumothorax, and it does commonly occur after physical trauma or blast injuries to the chest. And she'll be getting more treats from me, that's for sure.
Glad things are looking up for her. I know what you're going through, something similar happened to me years ago, but the out come was not good for my dog. Continued good thoughts for you and your dog.
Having lost two cats to the road outside my house I can sympathise. I hope she recovers quickly, Valeris.
