"$#*! My Dad Says"

In that case, I could see the show doing a slow ramp up like The Big Bang Theory in that its audience actually increases over time instead of the other way around for most shows.
It's kinda of done that already just with 5 shows.
Started high, dropped, dropped, increase, increase, ???(ep.6)
It needs to show balance though thru all 22 eps so I'm hoping the momentum stays and that people don't forget about it over the Christmas/New Year break.

Infact the writers strike actually helped TBBT, which had a worrying drop in ratings towards the last few episodes of its debut season but CBS had very little in viable pilots to replace it with.
Which just goes to show why networks, oftentimes, shouldn't be so quick to axe middling performing shows. Now TBBT is its best/second best show with viewers and critics.

I'm going to a sneak showing of the movie Conviction tonight so will again miss tonight's first run airing. But I'll get in on the +7 rankings.

I'm beginning to wonder if they have different teams writing for Ed and Henry vs. the brother and sister in law. It's the only way to explain why the vast majority of the brother and sister in law stuff sucks epic ass like it did tonight. The dialog for Ed and Henry isn't perfect by any stretch but it doesn't stink up the joint like nearly every scene with the brother and sister in law does.

Last nights episode was kind of ...meh, for me anyways. It seems that they are still trying to get the "chemistry" between Shatner and the guy that plays Henry. I say this because one episode is written and acted just right, then, like last night it so boring it almost sucks downright.

Still an interesting show that's funny. But the hefty son and is harpie wife (who seems to walk more like Asimo than a human being) need to go and if the premise of the show didn't depend on it I'd almost say the main son needs to go too. He's just not that interesting and while I think this crotchety dad character is being well done by Shatner he's pretty much carrying the entire series which cannot last long. Sooner or later the "sons" are going to need to carry some of the weight. That or, as I said up thread, Shatner needs to be just placed with a group of other old men who are varying degrees of crotchety and rational and just let the material write itself.

The latest episode I watched featured the (main) son dealing with trying to get a date and ends up dating his half-brother's boss -after a chance encounter in the office, the boss is a nutcase, he does it to ensure his half-brother and his wife get a choice client in the real-estate office. Meanwhile Ed (Shatner) befriends the half-brother's dog and shows it the kind of compassion he never showed either of his children.

Again, Shatner mostly carried the show and the humor. The sub-plot with Son A and the nutsoid S&M-crazed boss was okay if over-the-top and just poorly played by the son. The half-brother's subplot also deals with the loss of affection from his father, mostly Ed not coming over to see the new house, and his delusions of Ed ever coming over (and when he does it's to see the dog.) It was all something that had potential but these actors for the adult children just aren't very good, and their single female character (the wife of the half-brother) is a shrieking harpie. Shatner gets all of the good lines and scenes. This show, much like other sitcoms, if it gets a second season needs a tonal shift or do something to get the sons to be better characters because right now, for me, they're not working.

Shatner is carrying this entire series.

I've been so behind. I have the last 3 episodes to watch on DVR. I saw a snipet of the episode your talking about, dating the nutty real estate boss.

I'll comment as well once I see them. I'm planning to get caught up hopefully this weekend. I was 4 eps behind on The Office and got caught up on those last weekend.

The show has climbed back up in ratings and demo though so that's a good sign. I think I saw over in Jax's last Thursday thread it got 10.93 million viewers and a 3.4 demo.

Shatner IS the show, although the main son has grown on me. I agree the older son and his wife still need some good material...at least I'm hoping its the material they are being given.

I tried to watch a second episode and just couldn't get into it. Will Sasso and Nicole Sullivan are pointless. Very pointless. And I just don't find anything Shatner says to be funny. The Twitter feed is funny. The show is not.

The first two episodes are much weaker IMO than the other 5 we have had.

Has CBS cancelled ANY of its sitcoms after a season or less? I don't recall any that got the axe but that could be because those shows were so bad they don't exist in my world.

They killed The Class -- my favorite sitcom EVER -- after only 19 episodes, despite good ratings and an Emmy win. It was insane.

I checked it out and even today it would of gotten cancelled by CBS never mind back a few years when HUT levels were higher. CBS can afford to be very picky and sadly I still feel that could be the downfall of $#*! My Dad Says.

I still feel TBBT and $#*! My Dad Says aren't the best fit and its long term future could lie on monday nights maybe even achoring it since the 8:30 slot generally gets lower ratings than 8.

Mahoney looks bad, been awhile since Frasier. Several people have said how great Shatner looks to be knocking on 80.

The episode tonight has been good. Several of us had been saying we needed to see some contemporaries of Ed, especially his Navy comrades.

I'll say it again.

$#*! My Dad Says was the winner this past Wednesday at the People's Choice Awards for Best New Comedy.

William Shatner gave the acceptance speech.
Wow! Favorite New TV comedy. This is fantastic! This new show is funny. We've been up for all kinds of important awards, prizes and things like that. I mean this is sensational. But the People's Choice Award is arguably the most important one of the year and that's especially true if you win one. So thank you on behalf of everyone at Bleep My Dad Says.

In other news that hit about 2 weeks before the win(for whatever weight it does carry) CBS announced that after FEB sweeps they were going to shuffle $#*! out of the lineup and test another mid season show, Mad Love, out.
CBS announced their mid-season schedule this past week. There weren't that many dramatic changes, but it's worth noting that both The Defenders and $#^! My Dad Says have been given shortened seasons. Given? Is that the right word? Can you give by taking away?

Anyways, the new comedy Mad Love (premiering February 21st and starring Sarah Chalke, Jason Biggs, Tyler Labine and Judy Greer) will bump Rules of Engagement off Mondays and over to Thursdays where it will replace the William Shatner sitcom $#^! My Dad Says.

While I get that Rules is actually taking $#*!'s spot it wouldn't be if Mad Love weren't being shuffled in. As someone who likes Shatners show I'm just going to hope Mad Love tanks and the People's Choice win encourages CBS to move $#*! back in and order the last 4 eps and/or just give it a second season.
