My cat just dropped dead... what the hell?

As a man of practicality and frugality I am puzzled by the need for a purebred cat. Though....... 'nother thread!

I did some welding work for the breeder so I got 'em for about the same cost as a recycled cat from the Humane Society.

...speaking of, Simon and I have decided we are going to the cat recycling center after work today and see what they have. I've always had two cats. Always. Either one indoor and one outdoor or two outdoor or two indoor... man I can't have just "one" that'll trigger a massive OCD fit. :guffaw:

I'm really sorry, Flashover. But be glad it was a quick and relatively painless death. Believe me, it could have been *so* much worse - we had a four-year-old, Sparky, suffer some sort of kidney faliure. It wasn't properly diagnosed at first and we (and he) went through hell. They told us to force feed him, which we did. We ended up leaving him (a home cat) at the vet overnight for observation, which messed him up (he had clumps of fur missing the next day). When we brought him home he was so happy he was almost like normal for a few hours, but then he sat in a corner and stayed there. He was so weak by the time they figured out what was going on, the guy who put him down couldn't find a vein and had to inject him directly in the heart. He shouldn't have been made to suffer like that - he should have been properly diagnosed and put down a week earlier.

That cat was everything to me. We've got two cats now, about 11 and 12. I hope when their time comes, it's painless and dignified.

I'm sorry to hear about that. The real Finn's my first pet (beagle :)) and I cannot fathom losing him.

The cat I (practically) grew up with never complained (as they don't), but she must've been in some pain the last year (or so) of her life (became significantly slower to rise and was much more careful to lie down) but we didn't had her put down before it was obvious that she was in pain*... I hope I'll be better to make that decision when the time comes for my not-yet-one-year-old.

___________
*) that's a story for another time and another thread.

I think my hardest pet loss was when my little kitten Dexter disappeared. I don't even know how he got out of the house - he was an indoor cat who was only allowed out into the back yard when I was with him. I spent days looking for him, I had him listed on the Pet Patrol on a local radio station, rang up all the vets and animal shelters, posted Lost Cat posters around the neighbourhood and putting little notices into people's letter boxes but I never discovered his fate. If he is still alive he would be about 5 years old.

LONG ago we got a kitten from a local farmer. We'd put him outside in a fenced in flower-garden to play. Did so one evening. I'm on the steps watching, my brother is on the swing set.... Owl OUT OF NOWHERE swoops down and grabs the kitten.

On the one hand, it was kind of traumatic. On the other hand, owls are REALLY cool birds, especially in Hunting Mode.

I think you might just have really bad luck with cats. You'r other kitty might want to start getting worried right about now.

I remember this video on American's Funniest Home Videos, where this kid outside has his mouse someplace, like a table top, and a bird swopps down and WOOSH! The mouse is never to be seen again.

That was over 25 years ago. I haven't had a catastrophic feline failure since then.

I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving, Plecostomus, but if you want back in to TrekBBS, I'm afraid you'll first have to email T'Bonz. An insistence on making threads like this aren't going to help your case, though.

But I'm glad TrekBBS users are so sympathetic and friendly, regardless of the fiction.
