My Car Window Shattered today

Today should have been a normal day, go to work, come home, get ready for a weekend trip out of town. When I started my car though this afternoon, I heard what sounded like a Bomb and saw that the back window had been completely shattered. It took a long time to clean up (Was late to work actually, but I did call) but we ended up making some makeshift coverings and used a hell of a lot of duct tape.

My car has been through a lot, admittedly, but man was this something I did not expect. How much is it to fix a back window these days, especially on a 2000 Saturn. Maybe there is an average price range I can expect or something. Still though, I'm a little bummed about this whole thing.

My Dad told the story that one night, he went out on a date, borrowing his father's car. The next morning, Grandpa asked him what happened on the date. Dad said that nothing much happened. Grandpa took him out to see the car--the entire rear window was shattered! Dad insisted that nothing that serious had happened on the date. He was never sure if Grandpa believed him.

My back window shattered one time. I just came out in the morning to find the window still intact but it looked weird. Upon closer inspection, I found it was completely shattered. A little pressure on it and it just collapsed. It wasn't fun to clean up, but being tempered glass there weren't any sharp shards to worry about. I got a new window from a salvage yard, but I don't remember how much it was. Maybe $25 or so? Anyway, I put it in myself, so all it cost to fix was the cost of the 2nd hand glass and some adhesive and maybe a weather strip or something.

^Probably, but it all depends on the insurance policy.

I don't know about where you are but here in FL, by law front and rear window glass is covered without deductible by car insurance. And the two times I or my ex have needed it, the window repair came to us. It was about as painless as it could be, given that there were large amounts of broken glass involved.

My front windshield shattered a few months ago. We called a guy who came to the house and fixed it in our driveway. I can't remember exactly how much it was, but I remember thinking it wasn't that bad.

That would be comprehensive insurance right?

Absolutely. I have coverage and the deductible is only 50 bucks. It can't hurt to find your policy and call them up.

Last time I had to have to replace my front windscreen after some vandel broke it, the excess was only £50.
