My Brain Tumor

I would say 'good luck' Trekker, but in these types of situations I say I hope you have competent doctors, no 'luck' involved. :)

Get better dude.

Ah, but the better doctors would acknowledge the paramount need for a large dollop of luck in anything they do. The ones who say they don't need luck, they're the ones I would worry about!

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Good luck, Trekker. I'm confident it'll turn out to be benign, or something easily killable =)

Update!

Sorta.

I had the consultation with the neurosurgeon today, pretty much nothing has changed. He was a little less comittal about whether it was benign or malignant. I'll probably have the biopsy done in a couple of weeks which will involve cutting a small slit in my scalp, spreading it aside, cutting a hole in my skull and then sticking a probe in there to get a piece of the tumor to do the biopsy (which will take a week or two to run all of the tests.) If the piece they get is inconclusive, more... aggressive techniques will be employed.

The surgery will involve an overnight stay in the hospital for observation to ensure no brain bleeds or infections occur.

Sorry I've missed this up to now Trekker (I've had a couple of stays in the hospital myself over the past month so I haven't been around much), but I hope it's benign and can be removed without any trouble. Best of luck to you, buddy, and hopefully your recovery will be speedy. :):techman:

Thanks for the update Trekker. Continued positive vibes being sent your way.

Locutus, hope you're feeling better yourself! "A couple of stays in the past month" doesn't sound wonderful. Positive vibes to you as well!

Not sure if I am repeating myself, but here is some more advice. The weekend before the procedure, have some fun. Do something carefree or silly; these tests can weigh heavily on your mind (no pun intended) and it is good to go in at least somewhat relaxed.

Best of luck to you!

Maybe if they poke your hypothalamus in the right spot, you'll end up having constant orgasm!

Of course, then you'll probably forget to eat and sleep and eventually die, rotting away in a corner with a maniacal smile on your face.

But what a way to go!

Treker, I hope that it all turns out to be benign and your recovery will be swift and painless.

Likewise, Locutus of Bored, I hope all is well with you too.

Thinking good thoughts for both of you.

Good luck, Trekker. I can imagine how scary the biopsy is, even though it's a very routine procedure (everything is routine when it happens to somebody else). Hang in there. I've got my fingers crossed for you.

I somehow was not aware of this. I hope everything is okay now.

SOmething odd today. Today I got a referral to another neurologist, the date is in early May. Near as I can tell this isn't for the surgery it's a direct referal asking for insurance/personal information. What's even odder its from a neurologist's office I visted a few years ago when I went to see a doctor about my migraines.

Curious.

I wonder if my insurance is "forcing" me to get a second opinion on whether or not I should have the biopsy? I got this in my mail this evening, too late to call and find out what is going on, so I will call them tomorrow.
