Music Cue Question

Excluding the opening and closing titles, how many season one music cues appeared in all three seasons?

I can only think of one...the music in Charlie X when he performs the card trick (albeit season 2 and/or 3 might've been re-recorded versions).

Are you talking re-use of season one recordings, or just cues written for season one that were re-recorded and used in seasons two and three?

Also, paging @Indysolo.

Anything that was re-used or re-recorded. I'm also talking about only cues that were used in all three seasons, i.e. not one and two, or one and three, but one, two AND three, and only televised material.

There's a cue from The Cage that appears in the library for all three seasons. I believe that it had to be re-recorded for each season because of AFM regulations. Offhand I don't know the title of the cue, but I know it was used in The Cage, This Side of Paradise, Private Little War, and some 3rd season episode that I can't recall now.

Ah yes. That Which Survives!

Okay... Looking over the track list from the soundtrack set, the only first-season cue I can find that was re-recorded for both season 2 and season 3 was "Monster Illusion" from "The Cage," which must be the cue Not Herbert is referring to. This is the cue that accompanies the beginning of the Rigel VII fortress sequence in "The Cage." In addition to the episodes NH lists, it was also used in "The Return of the Archons" two or three times.

I can't find any re-recordings for the "Card Tricks" cue from "Charlie X." I wonder if The Warlord could actually be thinking of "Monster Illusion," since they both use a similar high-pitched "pinging" percussion instrument (once upon a time I would've been able to name the instrument -- celesta, maybe?).

I know Card Tricks from Charlie X plays as Nomad reads the tape of Scotty on the bridge in The Changeling, and the peddle flesh moment in Return to Tomorrow, and the door opening/closing tricorder readings in That Which Survives. Not sure if they are the same recording though.

Music from "What Are Little Girls Made Of" is used in all three seasons.

In season 2 the library recording of "Ruk Attacks" was used in "A Piece of the Action" when Kirk is setting up his trap with the radio parts. In season 3 it's used in "The Savage Curtain" during one of the fight scenes.

Yes, that's true! And the actual fight section features during the opening moments of Act I of Assignment: Earth as Seven gets off the transporter pad...Can't think of any more, but keep 'em coming guys! :)

It would be nice to have links to youtube or something, for those of us who are not savvy enough to remember these cues and too lazy to go through our own collections to find them.

No, I'm quite happy not having links to these albums on YouTube.

1) You are a spoilsport.
2) It would be just as easy to link to posted versions of the episodes themselves, or to the scenes in question, so that the cited cues could be heard in context. Which was actually what I was hinting at.

You specifically said "cues" not "scenes". And the episodes are not on YouTube. And neither should the scores.

Neil

I said "cues" because everyone else had said "cues". You are disseminating broad strokes with a magnifying glass. No, no full episodes are on Youtube. But there is nothing wrong with bits and pieces of them being on Youtube for the purpose of making my point. This happens all the time with any number of both copyrighted and trademarked material. It's called "Fair Use".

In Mudd's Women there is a cue that ends the opening teaser (right before the opening credits)
It was also used on City On the Edge of Forever when Kirk and Spock were about to jump through the Guardian of Forever.
It was also re-recorded(and lengthened) for a scene in Spock's Brain when Kirk used the "Spock Remote Control" to have him deactivate the pain belts Kirk McCoy and Scotty were wearing.
