Back to electronics.. Above & Beyond -You Got To Go remixed by Kebu who only used the vocals and redid the entire thing on analog synths.

Yesterday evening I was at a PAIN concert, besides PAIN there also was an Italian band called Sawthis, and a Swedish band called Corroded as crowd warmers, Sawthis was nice and death growl-ish, Corroded plain funny, they messed with the crowd.
And then PAIN, must say I was impressed, Peter Tagtgren and his crew put down a great show, being a fan I could sing along with most songs, the drummer is Sebastian Tagtgren his 18 year old son, the guy is really good, Peter also messed a bit with the crowd, very awesome to have seen him live. :mallory:

this is what I am listening to now...

PAIN -Same Old Song
Old favourite of mine, he performed this one a few weeks ago at the concert I was at. :mallory:

If anyone wants to take a look at my Soundcloud page, I'd make me happy. Only a few tracks, mainly EDM type stuff with one badly recorded guitar piece. Hopefully more to follow. :)

Ayreon put most of his work on his youtube channel so you can listen to it as much you like, I have to say that Arjen is probably the nicest artist on this planet, despite the things he accomplished he always remains really modest, even shy a little.

Holy goodness.

I listened to Ayreon - Aquatic Race, after I saw your post.

I totally can't understand what's going on. Does that *SPOILERS* mean that time travelling humans are Y? Or that humans are becoming Y themselves, like the humans becoming like the Vorlons at the end of Babylon 5? Or have the Y been human(-oid)s themselves? I stopped following the story after 01011001. I need to read-listen to the whole thing.

Are the vocalists singing the humans or the aliens?

ETA: Deathcry of a Race's my favourite so far. Shame that Zaher Zorgati's appearance is so brief. Only one song? Myrath are totally amazing.

The entire saga is both a little complex and quite straight forward, it's just that Lucasson released different parts of the Ayreon story out of order.

The Source is technically the start of the main story and tells the tale of humans on a planet called Alpha who are subjugated by machines so decide to flee to another planet, Y, but have to change their physiognamy to adjust to planet radiation. They then live on Y for millennia only to then be subjugated by machines again so decide to send their DNA across the universe on an asteroid that crashes into the earth, wiping out the dinosaurs and starting the evolution of man. The second part of that story is told on the album 01011001.

But other parts of the saga are told on Flight of the Migrator, The Dream Sequencer, The Final Experiment, The Electric Castle and notionally The Human Equation.

Arjen Lucasson is magnificent and I love most of his work. I'm into his project The Gentle Storm right now, who released a dual album with one of his favourite female vocalists and tells the story of a woman writing letters to her love as he sails the seas. The trick being Side A being the "Gentle" side with all the songs having a folk tilt to them, whilst side B has the same songs remixed into heavy rock or "Storm"' side. Its pretty damned sublime.

All of the Ayreon saga music is on his personal YouTube in good quality, with a few of the non-saga albums missing.

If you like rock, opera and/or prog, he's for you.

My fanaticism about music is at long last on the wane - I may have thousands of CD's but I buy very few thesedays. I still love a lot of the stuff from back in the day though :

Classic Rock : Zep, UFO, Rainbow, Sabbath, Purple, Free, Bad Co.,

Metal/Thrash : Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax,

Prog : Yes, Floyd, Hawkwind, Genesis, Rush, Transatlantic

Industrial/Electronic : Rammstein, NIN, Numan, Jarré

Other : Springsteen/related, Neil Young, Bjork, Bowie, Kraftwerk, New Model Army, Sisters Of Mercy, The Levellers

Loads of stuff us 50+'s might be expected to like...

Yup.

It's an interconnected circulatory.

But that time travel loop is a failed attempt at course correction by humans on earth after the main thrust of The Source and at the end of the story of 01.

In fact the entire album of The Final Experiment technically takes place during one song on 01 - E=MC2.

It's bonkers.

Hugo - it really is

Even Arjen needs help now and then to understand his own storyline. :D

As for Ayreon, what an awesome body of work, the love and care that he puts into it, the way he uses the instruments, the guest singers and guest musicians, they all give 110%
Universal Migrator part 1: The Dream Sequencer, I very much love as well and the Theory of Everything also is beatifully done.

From a different multi instrumentalist, Peter Tagtgren, been listening to PAIN a few years now and I have to admit that he's all over the place with the music, some songs are crude, some contain a lot of humour and here and there he creates something that is actually beautiful.
Like this one, PAIN -Starseed
