Perhaps we'll see a western version of the DW theme in the new season?

Is that really Murray? Doesn't look like what I pictured (though why should he?).

Neat little tune. Never know what you might get with Who, part of it is crap but it's counter-balanced with a lot of good stuff.

That is indeed Murray, and that is ridiculously awesome. I also wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get a western variation on "I Am The Doctor".

I can see that being used in the end credits of the western episode, perhaps even showing the TARDIS flying off into the sunset.

That sounded cool - I hope we hear that in the episode.

I've heard whispers he's also composing another song for an upcoming episode, which is also something to look forward to. Gold's work on the Matt Smith episodes has been superb, but we've yet to hear the Eleventh Doctor's equivalent of Song for Ten (Abigail's Song from Christmas Carol was excellent, but it was a showcase for Katherine Jenkins as opposed to something that represented an era the way Song for Ten, in any of its versions - I prefer the version with the complete lyrics Tim Phillips performed at the BBC Proms, even with its rather rough middle eight - represented the Tennant years).

We've seen him in the doctor who proms and confidentials

@23Skiddo...why would you assume that Matt would get a version of "Song for Ten" didn't that music specifically have to do with the Ood and their connection to the Tenth Doctor?

I do have to confess I miss his more boisterous style from Tens era. I find myself listening to a lot of his earlier work on the commute home from work.

While I like his newer stuff, the last two seasons have seemed kinda bland music-wise.

^^ I guess I never downloa...., er, they don't show those on BBC America.

Actually, the 2010 Proms special was shown on BBC America, the same day A Christmas Carol aired.

No, the Song for Ten is the song that played in The Christmas Invasion when the Doctor is selecting his new outfit.

I agree with you on this, The past 2 seasons have not sounded as epic as the first 4 with doc's 9 and 10. In the very begining of 'The 11th Hour' when 11 is hanging out of the Tardis that music was as epic sounding as 10's music. After that it was much more subdued.

Murray was probably trying to copy his RTD era style of bombastic music

11th doctor era music is much more intimate and adventurous

May I just mention two things:

a) that's awesome

b) Murray Gold is hot as.

That is all.

I agree, but I don't think it is Gold's fault. I think he has been ordered to be less obtrusive with his scores. There are a lot of fans and critics who think that the music has been too loud and bombastic in NuWho. I disagree with that sentiment, but it does exist.

Yeah, I pretty much lay it at the showrunners feet. We know RTD liked making the show larger than life, including the music. The current crew likes things more atmospheric and intimate. Its not necesarily bad, but I do miss having those amazing themes that instill emotions just by listening to them.

And I definately miss the DW Proms.

My mistake about the "Song for Ten". I can't believe I got that confused with the Ood song. LOL.

We did get the Proms and an interactive appearance from Matt after series five, perhaps we'll get one next summer or something. I would argue that Murray has done some of his most bombastic and epic themes during the Moffat run.
