Mumbai!

So, my wife (she's Indian) and I are watching the news about the attacks.

It's strange to see the city under attack. My wife is worried--she has friends that live there.

It's just shocking to see the events happen.

I don't know. Just expressing shock.

A member of Flickr called Vinu ran out as soon as he heard the first explosion and took photos. See them here.

Oh my god, this is awful. :( I hope anyone with loved ones in the Mumbai area finds them safe and sound, as soon as possible!

We called my wife's parents, just to let them know, they live in Delhi...they hadn't heard, it was night and they were sleeping when it happened. We had to tell them.

And it's still going on...

I just heard about this earlier. Honestly not sure what to say. Shocking is the only thing that comes to mind at the moment.

This is terrible and disgusting. Of course, I feel awful for the people in India and upset for those who lost their lives senselessly.

Unfortunately, I am no longer surprised at unjustifiable acts like this. After years and years of this shit from intolerant extremists... I find no shock whatsoever in these events.

It's too bad the terrorists couldn't simply kill each other to make their point. That would solve everyone's problems.

Latest news is a huge explosion in one of the hotels. This is just so awful. What with this and travellers trapped in Bangkok airport, the world is a scary, scary place.

There have to be better ways to get the world's attention. No cause is worth a human life.

Yet more lives wasted in the name of some "cause". Appalling.

QFT.

Whatever point these...people...are trying to make or prove, slaughtering innocents who just happened to be there at the time renders said point completely meaningless.

The lastest news from the BBC is that an Australian and a Japanese citizen have been killed. 81 Indian nationals and six foreign nationals have been killed, plus a lot of policemen.

I have a friend that's supposed to be going to India with her parents for a month starting next week. She's considering re-scheduling to avoid Mumbai, but I suppose it's all dependent on advice from the Embassy.

Which is why I'm thankful President Bush has kept us safe for the past 7 years and hope the next president can do the same.

Serious S**t Going Down at Mumbai!

There has been a small war in Mumbai, with well over a hundred dead and several hundred wounded, after dozens of terrorist gunmen (young, impressionable goons from Pakistan by the looks of it) went on a days long rampage through the holiday and commercial areas of Mumbai, killing dozens of cops and taking Westerners hostage.

Re: Serious S**t Going Down at Mumbai!

There's already a thread on the subject here. You might have missed it since it's on Page 2 already. :)

I'm sure that the dead in Mumbai are glad for President Bush's fanning the flames of extremism in the region.

As long as you're counting from 9/12/01 onward, yes...technically you are correct unless you're a member of the military.

Merging Threads....

It's still going on-- now there's a battle going on in a Jewish center. CNN reports 125 dead in "coordinated" attacks. :(

Re: Serious S**t Going Down at Mumbai!

Pity we can't just put all these terrorists in a desert and drop the bomb on them...

Re: Serious S**t Going Down at Mumbai!

^The terrorists have now been linked to a Pakistani terror group called Lashkar-e-Toiba which has been behind hundred of previous attacks focused primarily in Jammu and Kashmir.

I really want to see the terrorists who have been captured marched into a public street and shot. That is the only thing I think that may come close to avenging their actions. I'm still oscillating between being angry, sad and frustrated at this situation. It is so very sad.

My kudos go out to the Mumbai Police who have had to deal with this situation despite being horrifically under-equipped and underpaid.

Sorry Orac, not picking on you but this is an overly simplistic way of looking at the situation. It isn't just some cause. It's -- difficult to explain but it's also difficult to understand what these people go through.
