Mulgrew lends voice to geo-centrism?

This makes me think of last summer when there was a great moaning and gnashing of teeth when the OitNB fans "suddenly realized" that Laura Prepon was a Scientologist and started predicting her church would look down on her portrayal of a LESBIAN drug lord. Once word leaked out that her role was to be reduced in season 2, it was taken as fact that Scientology had "gotten" to her and forced her to get out of the show because of all the lesbianism which obviously ran counter to her church's teaching.

It didn't matter the actress was on record saying multiple positive things about the LGBT community or the recent Supreme Court ruling (2013) for gay rights. Nope, she was a Scientologist and had to follow the church elders wherever they might lead. Hell, last night when I searched for new OitNB stories I found yet another season 2 story that brought up the question of her religion and her possibility of being Mrs. Tom Cruise causing her limited exposure in this year's show.

We heard one line from the narration. We don't know what else Kate says or what she "believes".

Could she be a dupe for geocentrists? Of course.

Could she fervently believe in their thesis? Certainly.

Does she secretly harbor the desire to carry a banner for the anti gay, anti-semitic right? Oh my. I'd sooner believe Dick Cheney would hand over Laverne Cox's GLAAD award at next week's ceremony instead of Ellen Page than Mulgrew had become a refugee from a "Red State" living in Gotham.

I suggest we just wait for the "rest of the story" before we take sides.

The mismatch between the scientific achievements coming from the country and the stupidity of its population, continues to amaze me. The growing strength of religious fundamentalism in politics is frightening. You have to wonder if some day someone who denies the existence of protons and electrons will have the command over the nuclear weapons arsenal.

Some of them might believe an object would fall to Earth from the distance of the moon without burning up. They might be STID fans.
 
The article seems to have been updated to include a statement from one of the scientists:

Krauss said Tuesday morning that he had not willingly participated in the film.

“For all who asked: Some clips of me apparently were mined for movie on geocentricism,” the scientist posted on Twitter. “So stupid does disservice to word nonsense. Ignore it.”

I'm sure the other who are "involved" in the project would say something similar.

I didn't have any idea that such things as geocentrists existed ! Wow, really !

Mind you, I know for a fact that the Earth is flat...
 
I understand being a voice-for-hire, but none of the words on the page she was reading caught her attention at the time? How can she be misled if she had the entire script right there in front of her? That sounds more like a backpedal.

Her script may have only been the lines she was to record. Unless you have a copy of those words, or have already seen the film, it sounds like you're making a conclusion without all the facts.
 
Given some of the half-assed things Kate said in Voyager while playing Janeway, how is anything she says in this film any different?

Just a paying gig, no big deal.

This sort of thing has happened to other performers, where the work they thought they were doing wound up be used in a way they were unaware of. There have been other cases of actors recording narration that was used to promote an idea or individual they did not themselves support. Worst case situations include actors finding that a scene they filmed for one project, might wind up in something entirely different, like a porno film.
 
What a disgusting trailer. "Opinions" of fundamentalist loons mixed with real science soundbites to make it sound more believable. Sickening.

I don't know how bad she needed the money, but I wouldn't want to be paid for something like this. I'd feel dirty.
 
She wrote this on her TotallyKate Facebook today. It's in quotation marks so I think its her words. Kate isn't a dumbass people...plus considering the documentary is affiliated with ardent Republicanism (according to another article I read) and she herself has stated time and time again her Democratic views I wouldn't take the fact that she did a voice gig to mean she believes the stuff.

I want to say too that I work at a web company and I do voice acting at work all the time. Most of the stuff I am paid to say is utter crap. But it's my job. I do think that in this instance she could have asked more deeply about the documentary. But she was only a voiceover.

I have personally done voiceover work for my company without having a damn clue what they were for. I would just read the lines in the way I was told and that was that.

"I understand there has been some controversy about my participation in a documentary called THE PRINCIPLE. Let me assure everyone that I completely agree with the eminent physicist Lawrence Krauss, who was himself misrepresented in the film, and who has written a succinct rebuttal in SLATE. I am not a geocentrist, nor am I in any way a proponent of geocentrism. More importantly, I do not subscribe to anything Robert Sungenis has written regarding science and history and, had I known of his involvement, would most certainly have avoided this documentary. I was a voice for hire, and a misinformed one, at that. I apologize for any confusion that my voice on this trailer may have caused. Kate Mulgrew"
