MSNBC’s Anticipated Movies of 2008, Trek is #3 (In Voting)

Re: MSNBC’s Anticipated Movies of 2008, Trek is #3 (In

^ Well, I certainly didn't know it was a Bond film.

But then, the only Bond films I watch are those involving Sean Connery.

^
Casino Royale, the first Bond film starring Daniel Craig (who is is set to reprise the role in QoS) is rather better than any of those. Quantum of Solace - which also features a script from Crash scribe Paul Haggis - is thus one of my most anticipated blockbuster movies next year.

But to give Connery his due, I saw him in an excellent non-Bond film the other day, The Offence; definitely the best performance I've seen him give.

^ Well, I like to watch Sean Connery for more than just his performances....even as Bond. ;) It's a Sean Connery thing I have...not a Bond thing.

However, I do think he's given some great performances in his time. I've not seen The Offence, but I quite liked him in films like Russia House, Rising Sun, and Medicine Man. But I think my favorite Sean Connery role is in The Hunt for Red October. I loved him in that movie!

I recently acquired three Connery films I've not seen though - The Hill, Woman of Straw and The Red Tent. I'm especially keen to see the latter one.

Very, very good. Low-key British film from the early 1970s, directed by 12 Angry Men director Sidney Lumet. Grim, serious, intense stuff. Connery very effectively conveys a police detective on the edge of madness after years of seeing bloody murders and working in a grimy, pessimistic-looking small British town. I strongly recommend it. :)

So it's not exactly a typical Connery film. But if there's anyone who doubts he has range; this is about as far from the suave atmosphere of Bond as one can get.

At Comingsoon.net, Star trek barley registered for being the most anticipated movie in 2008. Now its number 1 on MSN. :sign of relief:

Lots of good ones on the list! But, ST had my vote.

You have to vote before seeing the results. Trek has a definite lead now.

Don’t know if this has been posted yet or not (don’t see it anywhere), so I’ll put it up here. MSNBC has an article and poll for the most anticipated movies of 08. While JJ’s Trek was not in the article, it’s currently 3rd in voting (Batman and Indiana Jones are leading). Wow for some reason I just had a summer of 1989 flashback with the original Batman, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Star Trek 5 all being out (man I’m getting old). Let’s hope the new Trek does better than it’s predecessor (luckily it won’t be going head to head with the big summer movies).

Here’s the Link

I just voted for Trek (even though I'm really interested in Indy4) and the results are far ahead for Star Trek. Yep, I think we've slanted this poll from it's regular readership quite efficiently. :guffaw:

It's not spamming if you go to all the local libraries and vote once on each computer. It's called... giving a voice to those who are unable to use computers and the internet. Or giving a voice to the people who haven't found the poll yet. ;)

Re: MSNBC’s Anticipated Movies of 2008, Trek is #3 (In Votin

^ 10% of the world's population uses computers and the internet, the other 90% is tech support for useing computers and the internet, and the 90% doesn't speak a word of English, thus making tech support impossible for the 10% who actually use computers and the internet.

Maybe we should change the thread title.

Well, I suppose that's one way of looking at it.

Too bad, especially since it's now in a solid second place and within striking distance of #1!

Just looking at that list makes me very excited about this year's movies.

I was thinking that - at lest 4 definites on there - Star Trek, Dark Knight, Quantum of Solace and Harry Potter will all get the price of admission from me. Dark Knight probably more than once, If it's anything like as good as Begins. Harry Potter mostly because I'm very morbidly curious to see how they tackle what is, imho, the least filmable of the books.
