Moving to Charleston, SC: Any Info You Could Share?

In a couple of weeks I will most likely be moving to Charleston, SC for a new job. I am very excited about going but I have very little information about the place except from what I learned being a tourist. So my question is... does anyone know anything about the city they would like to share? Where would be the best place to live? How about the nightlife? Any favorite restaurants you would recommend? Actually any tidbits would be appreciated!

Thanks! :bolian:

Thanks folks! :D I am excited to have health insurance again.

(And I know it is a long shot asking advice on something so specific here but I thought I would try it and see.)

This is probably the best place you could ask - I've never found another group of people so widely travelled. There's bound to be someone here who's lived in Charleston before.

I remember seeing a member who had Charleston SC in the location...I think.

Partsking is in Charleston, I'm in Sumter, which is about 2 1/2 hours from Charleston. I don't know about neighborhoods, etc, but I know that there's usually nightlife around the old Market.

Good luck baby!! Remember if there's anything you need or anything i can do for you from NY, you just let me know!!

Interesting! One of my coworkers just transferred there this week.

A good place to live would probably be in Summerville, just a bit outside the town just because its quieter there. I had a freind who lived there, and other place that I would love to live would be on the Isle of Palms, that is where all the nice beach nightlife areas are. There a loads of little restaurant lunges face the beach and you can just walk along the beach and walk up and get a sandwich and a beer, lots of them have little bands playing too. Its more the older adult scene, not like Myrtle beach which is all the teenie and younger folks area with all kinds of rides and attractions and traffic jams and cops writing tickets. Charleston is much more layed back. I live in Asheville, nc which is 250 miles from there straight up I-26. Come see us when it gets hot down there. This is the mountains and we got trees and the temp is 15- 20 degrees cooler.

Good luck on the new gig Smurf, I don't have any more info on the place unfortunately though...

I've never lived there but I've visited a few times. Its a great town. I don't really have any advise but I think you'll like it there.

Again, thanks for all the well wishes! :bolian:

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Thank you! This just what I was looking for. You are also the second person to suggestion Summerville and I am liking what I see.

(And my mother lives about thirty minutes north of you... which is where I am hanging my hat at the moment. Having spent the last few years in a warmer climate, I am itching to get back to it. I am currently freezing my rear off in this 68 degree weather. :rommie:)

I live just off long shoals road at the Biltmore Park exit. One exit before the the airport. Where is 30 minutes North? Mars Hill, Barnardsville?
