After seeing promotion for months about The Highwaymen, I was looking forward to it. Kevin Costner & Woody Harrellson were both good in their roles as Texas Rangers on the trail of Bonnie & Clyde. Kathy Baker was pretty good as the Texas governor. But the story was kinda lacking, some how...it was still worth watching, though, for folks interested in the history of it all.

Went to AMC Tyler for a couple of movies Thursday night.

Shazam! was an entertaining movie, pretty fun once Zachary Levi shows up as the world's mightiest mortal. It look good on the IMAX screen. And there was a free comic book promotion, too.

When ya go to see it, stick around to the end of the credits, there are two bonus scenes, one midway through, the other at the end.

Followed that with the new PS. It takes the general idea, characters & most circumstances from the book and the first movie, mixes & matches, and twists some stuff around to tell the story a new way of a doctor who can't say goodbye to his kid after an untimely death. John Lithgow was good in his role as the neighbor who shares too much local knowledge. But I won't be going to see this one again anytime soon.

I do have my AMC Stubs tickets reserved for next week, going to see The Best of Enemies and Shazam! 3D on Monday and Missing Link 3D on Thursday.

I just saw The Mustang. Solid character piece. More is said with visuals and action rather than words. Nothing mind-blowing, but good is good.

    17. Happy Death Day 2U (2019) - {7} - Quite a subpar film when compared to the original. Really unnecessary. Jessica Rothe is a shining star, though.

    18. Us (2019) - {9} - Outstanding everything. Unsettling and funny and I don't want to spoil anything. Go see it.

    19. Pet Sematary (2019) - {7} - It's serviceable. It somehow feels too short and too long at the same time. Still not a fan of these directors. (Starry Eyes and Holidays)

    20. Escape Room (2019) - {6} - Terrible characters and a terrible ending. Also a terrible beginning considering it starts with a scene near the end. There were some really cool puzzles, though. I'll give them that.

Went out to the AMC Lufkin tonight to see The Best of Enemies and a second viewing of Shazam!

First off, I cannot recommend seeing the new DC superhero movie in 3D. Too much of the movie takes place at night, or in a dark location, and with the glasses on, its more difficult to tell what all is going on from time to time. The action scenes during the day or in well lit settings look cool, but of the two formats I've seen, so far, IMAX is the better way to see it. If its still showing in a couple of weeks, I'll go see it in regular 2D.

As for the newest "based on a true story" starring an Oscar nominee & an Oscar winner, interesting story, and the movie was alright, but the trailer is selling a story that wasn't told in the film. If the white supremacists hadn't done what they did, going from the movie, CP Ellis may well have stayed true to his beliefs. And it seems to me that Ann Atwater's favor added to the Ellis household's bills, no way the hospital would ignore the $75 more a month just because she asked 'em for it.

Next AMC Stubs ticket is for Missing Link 3D this Thursday.

Finally got to see Stan and Ollie. Loved it. It's a true love letter to the both of them. Gets a solid 8/10 from me.

Just saw Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind yesterday. It's a very good documentary. I was in tears by the end of it.

Finally saw Vice. If that was an accurate portrayal of Lynne Cheney - holy shit! That woman was a piece of work who kept her husband's balls locked in a box that she guarded zealously and only let him have them on rare occasions.

Couldn't sleep last night, decided maybe I needed a laugh to relax, watched the Jeff Dunham comedy special via Netflix. Walter & Peanut were, as usual, the best part of the special. Bubba D was just dumb, and Achmed was too racist.

Went out to the AMC Lufkin to use my third Stubs ticket for the week to see Missing Link in 3D.

Loved the stop motion animation, Laika's films rarely disappoint with that, and this was my first trip to the theater for one of their films since ParaNorman. It has a good voice cast, too. Nice humor, made me laugh a few times. And the 3D looked good, too.

I've got a plan to see the 60th anniversary screening of Ben-Hur Sunday, and reserved my three AMC Stubs tickets for Wednesday to watch the new Hellboy, Disney Nature's Penguins, and Breakthrough.

Went out to the Cinemark in Lufkin last Sunday to watch Ben-Hur's 60th Anniversary Screening from Fathom Events. I got to the theater just before showtime, so I missed the preshow that Fathom Events does for their releases. Still, there was a intro from Turner Classic Movies, the overture, a technical issue since the projectionist didn't know it was okay for the overture not to have a picture on the screen, the movie with a ten minute intermission, and then a closing from Turner Classic Movies.

Now, I've seen clips & pieces of the movie, but never the whole thing through until last Sunday. The chariot race was really impressive, of course, that's what the film is famous for. But I also enjoyed the story, the way it was told, and Charlton Heston as Ben-Hur. My favorite of his will probably always be the original Planet of the Apes, but this one was pretty good.

Went out to AMC Lufkin this past Wednesday, used up my three AMC Stubs tickets in a day, with refillable popcorn & soda.

Hellboy - I liked it. I'm a big fan of Ron Perlman's live action films, and have watched 'em over and over for years. Comparing this reboot to those is gonna happen, and it doesn't help when this movie does a flashback to Hellboy's origin, the same sort of scene from the first Ron Perlman movie, but done in a way that looks like a low budget fan film version. I didn't care much for how desperate it is for a sequel, setting stuff up in the final & a bonus scene.

There are two bonus scenes, one during the animated credits & another at the end of the scrolling credit.

Penguins was the first time seeing a Disney Nature documentary at the theater. Ed Helms did a fine job as the narrator, and there was some family friendly humor throughout to go with the filmed action. And during the credits, there is behind the scenes footage of the film crew.

I am bummed that I saw the trailer at the AMC Tyler's IMAX movies, but didn't have an IMAX option.

Breakthrough is a very religious movie. I am not religious. I went to see it for the cast - Josh Lucas, Topher Grace, Mike Colter, Sam Trammell, and Dennis Haysbert - and the director - Roxann Dawson.

As for just how religious it is, a pop song is played to open the movie, but the "Hot damn!" exclamation from the lyrics has been removed. Only two characters use foul language, one time each, one is chastised, the other apologizes. Two church services are shown. Lots of people praying in the second half of the movie. A character who says he heard a voice narrows it down to two options - insanity or it was the voice of God. The candlelight vigil seems too Hollywood-ized, but who knows, maybe they did act like that. There hypocrisy from a classmate - he didn't like John before, gave him grief after, but is shown in prayer for him during. Since it is based on a true story that happened just a few years ago, there is an update as to what the real people are up to currently, with pictures, before the credits roll. Personally, I wouldn't watch it a second time, since I'm not religious and the hand squeezing scene reminded me far too much of sitting with my brother last summer. I just went this once for the cast & director and because its basically free to see with my AMC Stubs membership.

And I've reserved my ticket for Avengers: Endgame 3D this Thursday night!

Watched Spike Lee's Oscar-winning "based on a true story" film the other night. Good cast, interesting story, liked it quite a bit. Nice to see Adam Driver do something other than Kylo Ren, too.

FvJ was all kinds of stupid, watched it just to get it off my list. May do the same for the other two Jason movies on my Netflix list soon.

Watched two Jeff Dunham specials off of Netflix. MtM wasn't too bad, and it was funny to see the puppets in costumes, but I didn't care much for CC. He used to be so funny when I was younger.

CRA was just as full of cliches as I expected it to be when I watched the first trailer for it last summer.

Went out last night, watched Avengers: Endgame 3D. It was holy crap good. It ties up the MCU franchise, but leaves enough for a new chapter going forward. I stayed through the credits, and while there isn't a bonus scene, there is an extra little bit.

I may go to Tyler tomorrow or Sunday to see Endgame again, in IMAX and/or BigD.

I've now seen Avengers: Endame four times - 3D, IMAX, IMAX 3D, and 2D - with a ticket to see it again on Saturday.

Just saw Aquaman, and like Venom... I thought it was pretty good. Don't get why so many people disliked it. It was like a lot of super hero movies. It gets a 7/10 from me overall. Also saw the Girl in the Spider's Web. It was good, but the plot felt rather thin in parts. It gets a 6/10 from me.

Took myself to see Avengers: Endgame on the weekend. Enjoyed it, good movie. I laughed, cried and finally ... smiled. Had all the feels...

I think that's the first movie I've seen in theaters since ... Solo .... ?

Went out and saw Detective Pikachu today. Really liked it, it's far from perfect, but still worth the watch. It gets an 8/10 from me overall, 7/10 (if I include any of the weak points I saw in the film).
