Movie Budgets?

Even with inflation it would still be the same issue.

Oh, and why have the last 3 movies had larger budgets than all before?

If you are planning to go see Star Trek Beyond, Simon suggests you avoid all TV Spots and trailers from this point forward.

Paramount cut the budget for TWoK after cost overruns on TMP. Though I doubt TWoK could've been made as cheaply without all the standing sets and miniatures already built.
This is basically the same reason a pilot episode is a lot more expensive than a production episode--most everything has already been built.

A lot of TMP's cost overruns were also of their own doing rather than Robert Wise's or Gene Roddenberry's. Two basic things would have helped TMP immeasrably: having a completed script and making up their mind what the hell they wanted to do (TV movie, no a series, no a TV movie, no a feature film... :ack: ) before building things.

Star Trek ended in 91' and began again in '13? Weird perspective

Did you give anything a chance?
It amuses me that Warped9 had most likely watched Star Trek for well over a decade by 1991, but somehow he still hadn't given ST a chance. It is possible to enjoy a show, or a series of shows, without enjoying every single thing about them.
